Lately I've developed some interest in cats, more like an obsession and unfortunatly, the one kind on my list is nowhere to be found around here. Just, if I had a nickle for every time I read persian... I myself is 1/4th persian from my mother side, ****. everyone and their mothers here own one and its heralded as the standard of beuty cat-wise.

So, yes, I am looking for a Sphynx but can't decide on where or how. I've noticed that pets prices double the norm here, but that might be justifiable due to you guys paying taxes and rediculously overpriced healthcare bills, not sure how the later fares when it comes to pet. do breeders in other countries charge less? I'd like to know.

Some of those stumbled upon online usually charge between a minimum of $800 to a max of $2500 and personally, I fail to see why 2 kittens from the same litter get priced differently but maybe because I lack the perception to determine what is show quality from not.

ok, how to import one for a reasonable price? preferably a dark or black kitten (sorry for my mess of a topic, am kinda in a hurry)

Don't beat yourself over it. I am from Bahrain, an island just north of Saudi and west of the UAE (Dubai? 5h drive by car). On a world map, most of the times if its not a pixel or two, gets lost in the blue and thus invisible.

The 'h' in Bahrain is a substitute for the letter 'ح' which nothing of phonetic equivalence to exist in the English language. It's quite similar to how the Japanese replace every 'l' with 'r' since they cannot pronounce the first even if their lives depend on it.

at 0:57 'ح" and at 4:19 'هـ', the latter is the 'h'.

One of my favorite things to do is driving under the rain, but sadly, here it rarely does. You ask why they call it "bah rain". Well, because that's how you say 'two seas' in Arabic. Bahar (my last name ) being one, and the prefix 'ein' to double it.

I have spent the past few months searching extensively for a female show quality sphynx (which I have now found!! Posting after this!!). During my search I was very interested in a few UK bloodlines. There are many breeders in the UK most of which were willing and able to ship a kitten to Canada, where I am. The price of these kittens are based on many factors. Firstly, new born sphynx require more care then your typical domestic cat, or many other different breeds. So that plays a roll in the pricing, higher matabolisms in this breed cause a higher food requirement, fat and protein percentages in said food etc. Also, the quality or show potential of each kitten is a huge factor. Quality can differ from kitten to kitten within the same litter. Some may have a bit of fuzz, on nose or tail, maybe low set ears, smaller eyes, rounded muzzle, weak chin etc, which would affect any possible show career, but they would still make most excellent pets, so they would be priced lower then a show potential. Pedigrees also help determine price. Its the same in most breeds though. Some canadian breeders of persians price their kittens at nearly equivalent prices of the sphynx. Either way, although the price can be daunting, let me assure you they are well worth it. I have had the pleasure of getting to know quite a variety of cat breeds, but above all, the sphynx is the most loving and most beautiful cat in my eyes, but I may be a tad biased

To be honest with you, I cannot differentiate between those of show quality and those of not. Thus, most of the mentioned above traits are quite irrelevant to me and would not factor into my choice making. With that being said, color, fuzz-less-ness and being spotless are what matter most to me. I apologize for not mentioning it in the topic earlier.


After I read your post, I went and checked some cat breeders starting with the ones listed under TICA. The majority of them have no pricing details, initial deposits being the exception ...and its as you said 'daunting', some offered spaying/neutering with theirs and some did not, some even had different prices for different colors/sex (racism/sexism much xD). At this point I am more confused than before so, would you kindly answer a couple of question for me.

Was your 'sphynx shopping done online?
What methods did you use to evaluate the breeder?
Did you put an initial deposit on yours?

Welcome! AoA! Enshah Allah, you will find your kitten without too much trouble. I have no idea what the procedures are for buying a kitten and having it shipped to a foreign country. I know we import them from Russia, so I assume they can be brought in and out of other countries. You should check with your government regulations for the shipping of pets to your country before you try to purchase a kitten.

Alot of my research was done online but for years I had stalked cat shows and spoken to breeders there.

A sphynxs price should not diferentiate on sex or color, as any color is permisable for the sphynx, and no aditional points would be granted for any color under the sun. I also dont agree with charging more for a particular eye color, such as odd-eyed ( different colored eyes). One of my boys is odd eyed, and has a heart murmur, is insanely fuzzy, lol, and looks more like a sick rex then sphynx. He is also my soulmate, so his fuzz or smaller ears dont matter to me! But eye color or skin color dont have anything to do with health or quality so do not matter.

Asking for a deposit to hold a kitten is pretty standard practice. Usually kittens get sorted out by show or pet quality and breeders pick by around 5 weeks, and they wont be ready to leave until usually 3 months, depending on the breeder of course. So to ensure you get to reserve the one you are interested in adopting, you need to put a deposit.

Since I was looking for a show kitten, when evaluating a breeder, the pedigrees and blood lines of the parents were important. Also, how extensively shown the cats were in the breeding program, and all the health tests being readily available to me. The conformation of the kitten obviously, and the actual cattery and how the animals were cared and loved for.

The hairless gene can be a tricky one. Another kitten I was interested in, came from two sticky balds (extremely hairless cats) but the litter they produced were all fuzzy to certain degrees. Sometimes a kitten can be born very bald, and later on in life develop some more fuzz. Environmental factors play a roll, as well as genetics.

If you see a kitten you are interested in, just email the breeder in regards to cost, and any other question you might have Most breeders are more then happy to help people. Everyone in the cat world has been so helpful to me, a lot of very nice people

I was being silly with the pronunciation "bah" is an interjection used to express frustration or disdain. lol im kind of a sarcastic girl. i know sarcasm is a hard to detect when written.

is "ح" the letter for cat? or bat?
