Hello everyone!

Been awhile since I posted here, but it turns out my boys swollen lymph nodes were due to what was probably an extreme allergic reaction to food? (Was switching him at the time)

Fast forward, he has developed indolent ulcers on his upper lip and it had been an ongoing thing for months now. He's about 7 months old now, and being treated with a low dose of prednisolone and switched to RC Selected Protien PD (no more soft poos yay!), and we saw some progress for a bit but then it looked like his lip was getting worse again so the vet upped his dose pof prednisolone and also added a liquid antibiotic.

I think his lip is starting to improve once again, although it had been bleeding on and off but I wouldn't be surprised if the dry winter air had something to do with it, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has any experience with this and what sorts of things worked/didn't work for you? It's been a process for sure. I'm wondering if allergy testing might be beneficial and I plan on bringing it up to the vet when we speak next, has anyone here found allergy testing useful?

Thanks for sharing…your post will help others in the future especially with the pic to reference. From what I have read foods can definitely help…limiting ingredients in hopes of filtering out what they are allergic too etc. So getting an allergy test would really help narrow that down quickly for you…so I say go for it. Please keep updating in this thread.

Thank you! Definitely going to look into getting some allergy testing done. Think it would make things a whole lot easier!

Will continue to update as he progresses!

Hello! Just thought I'd update this thread!

Prednisolone totally cleared up his lip! He's been eating a hydrolyzed protien diet as well (although is terrible for sneaking and eating food he shouldn't). We started tapering the Prednisolone dose once it was all clear and we managed to get him to once every third day when the ulcers started to come back.

We put him back up to once every day and his vet suggested Atopica for maintenance as it is a lot more safe than being on Prednisolone long term. Unfortunately the version of Atopica for cats is liquid and Cosmo hated it so much. It made him drool and also gave him diarrhea.

His vet then suggested we go sort of "off label" and use the Atopica capsules meant for dogs, which is apparently the same liquid but just in capsules. They used it in the past for their sphynx cat as well. When kept in the freezer it's supposed to help with gastrointestinal effects. So far so good! He has had 4 doses of the capsules and no diarrhea at all! His lips also have gone back to looking normal too! Just wish Atopica wasn't so expensive, but anything for my boy!

Anyone else have any experiences with Atopica?
