i can't believe i've never shared my puppies, i'm such an awful mom! i'm going to have to do a thread for each of them, i can't narrow my pics of river down to just one or two!

river is the four-legged love of my life. seriously, the BEST dog i have ever met! she is pretty much perfect in every way. she is a 3 year old pit/mix adopted from a rescue in alaska not long after we lost cyrus, our min pin, in an awful accident. she helped heal our hearts.

She is just gorgeous! I love the picture of her running through the snow! And the picture of her lying with the baby, well that just shows how viscous the breed is! NOT! Look at Ariana has her hand right in her ear and I swear River looks like she is smiling and quite content! I love how she has her eyes closed while the ferret is nosing at her. What a good girl!

She's a real beauty! And it's always been my experience that you get out what you put in. So if you shower a dog or cat ( or kid) with love, they will return it to you. Thre are reasons why things/people/situations become vicious and it's not usually because of a breed, or price tag or things like that.

thanks, y'all! river is such an important part of our family. i mean, we love all our animals and they are all important to us, but river is THE dog. she goes everywhere with us. my husband is in the air force. base housing (which is owned/run by a private company now) doesn't allow pit bulls or their mixes, so instead of living in a safe, family friendly neighborhood on base, we live in the ghetto down town, because it's the only place we could find where we could (legally) have her. every where we go (and we travel a lot), we have to plan our trip to avoid areas with bsl (breed specific legislation- dangerous laws written by ignorant fear mongers looking for the easy way out) where our dog would be in danger of being seized and euthanized simply because of the way she looks.

this is an older picture, but this is a typical evening at our house, ariana snuggling with her babies before bed.

I also hate stupid laws against pit bulls. If they could just put all the energy and time spent on breed legislation and put it into laws that protect animals instead, we would all be much better off!
When i was a vet tech in Ontario they had just passed a euthanasia law against pits but most vet staff would just get around it by lying, or changing the breed to am.staff instead.
I admire you being open and honest about calling her a pit bull mix, but I would be tempted to lie so travelling doesnt have to be so difficult. I guess if we all lie and call them something else then we cant educated people about how wonderful the breed is.
When people would call into the clinic to ask about what breed they should get that is good with kids, my first reccomendation was always pit bulls, LOL....the reactions I would get from the client were always bad.....but it was my experience they WERE great with kids, and sturdy dogs with a high pain tolerance that could put up with a small child accidently stepping on them or pulling their ears etc.
At that time there was a problem with labs being overbred and we were seeing lots of biters in that breed....pit bulls seemed like a better choice...

That first picture just melts my heart! River is gorgeous---and I just love that marking around his eye! Oh he is too cute. You have a gorgeous doggy family!
