Okay so I have 6 cats. 2 rescues and 4 Sphynx which I raise or planed to more so. The past few months the Sphynx have been on and off having Upper Respiratory Infections. They are all FELV/FIV negative. Once they get better it comes back so when symptoms flared up in on of my youngest whom is 6 months old. I had bloodwork sent off and it came back that she had FIP. I know it’s a most horrible virus but she doesn’t have any of the symptoms I was reading. And she’s been sick for quite some time. So now what I’m asking is the testing always accurate? Will she not have long to live? Should I try to see what I can do in the way of more testing?

(((Hugs)) and head smooches to all your babies

Is there a veterinarian university in your area to contact and ask about the accuracy of testing etc
What did the vet say?
Was it wet or dry FIP?

Prayers for your babies following closely for updates
I know the specialist I wemt to with my boys eye issue told me that the Felv/FIV
Could have false results. She told me not to do the test and treated him by his symptoms
And he is all healed

I personally do not know about the FIP test specifics
Here is an interesting article
FIP Testing There is No Such Thing Greendale Veterinary Diagnostics Limited

Surely others will chime in

Is she on medications?
Are the kitties separated?

Hi, awww bless you and your kitty. I don't have experience of this but online it states that FIP is almost always fatal, but hopefully some people with more experience than me can give you advice or chat to the vet, because I would imagine they would have a health plan in place for your kitty if she gets poorly. There two types of FIP wet and dry and some cats can live up to a year with dry FIP.

Binky had coronavirus at 6 months and I was so scared it would develop into FIP, this is why I did so much reading up on FIP. By the grace of god the coronavirus burned away as she grew and got stronger as she had parasites in her tummy. I just remember I had to keep her stress free, everything spotless clean and kept running to vet when she displayed signs of weakness. There a few articles online which you can read one I found is - update on feline infectious peritonitis digaostics and therapeutics, I hope you find it helpful.

sending love and prayers and head rubs to your little kitty xxx Please keep us updated xxx

My vet just contacted me today with the diagnostics. The only thing that came back positive was the FIP. My vet agrees that she very well could have the virus or have the positive to carry it. My other Sphynx haven’t had their bloodwork yet I’m sending it out Friday. They do not have or have had any of the symptoms that she has or not nearly as bad. But I will keep you updated on them. My vet is checking and I will know Friday about sending off additional testing for my youngest so I can find out if she actually has it or if she maybe is just a carrier or something like that. We are unsure if it is wet or dry however I haven’t seen any of the wet symptoms yet. She is on antibiotics and lysine treats and eye ointment.

I’m honestly not even sure if Coronavirus was tested in the panel. I will have her tested if it was not. Also they are not seperated my boy lives with a foster female and my Scottish Fold in one part of our home. While my 3 Sphynx girls live in the other part of the home. They have always been together. I’m not sure what to do at this point.

Thanks so much. Yes she is. My youngest are Aerial and Octavia and my oldest are Olive and Avraam. They are such spoiled pets. All of which came from great breeders except the kitten that is sick. I sort of took the kitten for a friend but now I almost wish I hadn’t. But I’m hopeful for a positive outcome or at least some positivity. It is an antibiotic eye ointment to help with irritated eyes. My other Sphynx only have URI symptoms however typically they just seem red irritated eyes. I have a feeling it hoping they may have something like Feline Herpes instead of all having FIP.

The vet has sent out additional testing so she can further if she actually has FIP. Sadly if she does she may need to be put to sleep she said as I can’t risk her around my others. So I pray she doesn’t. A new problem has also arose and I’m not sure what to do anymore. While at the vet my spouse let my boy from his room and I believe he may have bred one of my younger females. She is only 9 months and this makes her 6th heat cycle and he couldn’t have bred her more than once. However I had no intentions to let her anywhere near him until she was older and I always prided myself for doing so. From what I can tell the only way to abort the babies is by a Csection or spay. I know with dogs they have a vaccine that can abort them but I can’t find out if such exists for cats. So my question is what should I do with her? Let her have and raise her kittens or not? I hate to spay her as she is wonderfully bred and from a wonderful breeder. Thanks in advance.

Consult your vet. You have a lot on your plate and keeping bloodlines clean is very important to this amazing breed.

Yes I have discussed with my vet. All my cats have bloodwork sent off and if any come back positive they will be spayed and neutered as I would never breed a doseased animal. However from the last bloodwork my one youngest was only positive so my vet recommended after this panel comes back and if she is positive and no others are that she shouldn’t be allowed near the remaining of my cats and she recommended euthanasia which I really would hate to do, however I’ll do whatever is nescessary. My other girl came back negative on her bloodwork but she is young should I continue to let her have this litter if she did get pregnant?

Only your vet is truly qualified to answer that question. Your name and integrity is not the only thing at risk...the kittens are.et us know what they say to do. I bet you wanted to strangle your spouse.

I defiantly will. It’s just been so busy with everything going on and now this. I will be going to my vets tomorrow so I will get a decision then. And yes I defiantly am. I understand people make mistakes but I’ve succesfully managed to never have any unplanned litters so far.
