When I pick up my boy in 2 weeks, I was told by my breeder to feed him L-Lysine in his food to help clear up any outbreaks as kittens are more prone to them. I was just at my local drug store and could only find the 500 mg capsules. Would I be able to open the capsules since they are already pre measured and just mix the powder into his wet food?

Honestly, I'd discuss it with your breeder and your vet. You don't want to over dose kitty and hurt them right? I know my vet is great, when ever I call about anything they answer my questions over the phone as best as they could. Your breeder also may have a certain brand that she/he prefers that comes in the dosage she feels is correct!

Natalie just give them half the capsule. Standard dose is I believe 250mg/day unless otherwise directed or if the condition is flaring up as in the case of herpes.

I give 250mg once per day but the container I use suggests more. We use Viralys Lysine that comes in a tub with a scoop.

Thanks guys! I contacted the breeder and she said the L-Lysine capsules will work just fine. Thank you Megan for the dosage amount, that was going to be my next question. I will just estimate out half of the capsule per day.
