we took kimo with us to petsmart today. i was holding him while we looked at dog beds. a blue buffalo rep came up and said, "that's one of those ab, ab, abyssinians, ain't it." i told her no, he's a sphynx. she said, "oh, i can't tell. all these cats, they just look alike to me." i didn't say anything, but i barely managed to contain my laughter. HE HAS NO HAIR! even if you don't know the breed name (which a lot of people don't), i don't understand how anyone could mistake him for any other specific breed of cat! it just made me giggle. :LOL:

Anyone ask if Snuffie is a cat, I say "No, she is a New York Rat". Just so I can see the look on their face,,then I fess up and tell them all about her! It makes for some good laughs!

I get "is that a cat?" then "is it ok?" which cracks me up. Nup its got a contagious skin disease so i shaved it!!!! They are much rarer i think in nz. Most people have never heard of a hairless cat or a sphynx.

i don't know how i managed to keep my mouth shut, maybe because she seemed genuinely confused, i thought maybe there was something "wrong" with her.

i'm use to ignorant (and usually mean) comments about my rats and my "vicious pit bull", so i usually have no problems telling people what i think. i'm enjoying the attention kimo gets, though. everyone we've talked to has been fascinated and curious and.... delighted.

i did have one guy, very jokingly, ask why i'd shaved my cat. with a straight face, i told him that i would never shave my cat, it was cruel and dangerous. i dipped him in nair.

I took my Borzoi (12 mos old so he is lanky) to a townwide yard sale today, and some man asked me if I feed him, I told him yes I feed him very well, he is just an active growing pup. He then replied "oh, well then maybe he has worms.":Surprise:

That was hilarious. I had an Abbyssinian and when he was real young he had HUGE ears. I left him in the car while I ran into this store and I heard one lady say to another "Mabel, look at that cute chihuahua." :LOL::LOL:

before kimo came home, i was always surprised to hear people say their cats were mistaken for chihuahuas. now, i get it all the time! still don't understand it, though!


well, maybe i can see it with the darker colored sphynxes. maybe until you get close, the dark skin color makes them look like they have smooth coats like chis, instead of being hairless. *shrug* i dunno.... i know my neighbor was freaked out when she realized kimo's a cat, not a dog!

Haha! The nair thing is great! I'll have to remember that. For the most part I'm usually good with both the dog and the shaving comments, but when I get a lot in one day, I get sarcastic. The last time someone asked me if I shaved Loki, I replies that yes - I even got in there real close and shaved his ears AND his balls. That look of confusion was priceless...:Woo:
