Litter tray conundrum

We’re looking into getting another litter tray for our 2 boys but we live in a really small apartment so finding another suitable place has been an issue. Initially we were toilet training them but Aphex decided he wasn’t a fan, so we stopped. Now we have a large litter tray and a small one in our already tiny bathroom. I feel like this isn’t enough for them as Aphex will occasionally poop in the bath or on the floor. My first thought was to put one in the kitchen as the rest of the house is carpeted and tight for space as it is. However, while we are out of the house we shut them out of the kitchen to stop them from getting up to too much mischief. I’m not sure if they will be ok with only having access to the bathroom trays while we’re gone, I don’t want to encourage pooping at the door to the kitchen or something. Any advice? We’re saving to buy a house so it won’t be an issue forever but I want them to be as comfortable as possible!

Attached a bonus pic for those who read this far! Thanks in advance!

I think I would try and move one of the boxes out of the bathroom before I would add another box. Aphex may just associate the toilet training and litter box as one because they are in the same room. Maybe you can put one in a closet and leave the door cracked? Or use an enclosed one? Sorry I can't really help with location. Just my two cents

Ah beautiful pics of your kitty’s! The ikea website has great tips on litter tray ideas! I used to have 3 when binky was a kitten, but got it down to 2! As she will poop in one n pee in the other! Lol which I find amusing as she has standards!

I live in a one bedroom apartment so I have 2 large litters, one in the kitchen n the other in my room not ideal but there enclosed n I have a rug under it! I don’t know if it’s a cat thing but she likes privacy when going to the loo so at lease she has a choice of rooms!

I don't have anything to add other than what's been advised, but I feel ya!! I live in an apartment as well and with just one cat, right now I'm working on getting more than one set up without making my whole space feel like a litter box haha. Your boys are so cute.
