Hi all,

I'm looking to adopt or rescue a sphynx. My previous roommate adopted one while we lived together and I fell in love with the breed, and now that I'm out of college I have the time to care for one myself. I have been keeping an eye out on Petfinder but was told this could be another good place to look.

I'm willing to drive anywhere in the midwest for a cat that seems like the right fit.

Thanks for your help,
Danny

@dannynedelko , welcome to the lair family! all paws crossed the sphynx stars align! stay active and jump in and enjoy this fun friendly bunch.
Several of us have adopted from members. I have adopted 4 wonderful nakids , including a bonded pair from a member.

be sure to read the fraud tips thread, was helpful when I was looking at ads outside sphynxlair. * there are so many creative scammers out there. never hesitate to pm me any ads your are looking at for an extra peek for red flags.

@dannynedelko , Danny, you are most welcome.
I always try to keep an eye out in the adoption section to help hearts align. I was blessed to adopt thru sphynxlair.

do not hesitate to PM me any ads you are looking at outside sphynxlair. scammers get creative. I always say go with your gut.

sharing another option I learned of in my search , I adopted a wonderful retiree 2 yrs old, HCM scanned etc. she turned 12 this year and such a cuddle bug like I had her from a kitten, never a vet visit for any issues. you can reach out to reputable breeders to ask about any upcoming retirees.

I would like to add to Yoda Mom’s advice, make sure you get the cat’s FULL medical history before adopting a retired breeder. Especially if they do not own the cat’s parents!

We got blindsided by a breeder who told us she’d “just email all of his vet records because they are digital” when we picked up our cat, and we didn’t receive the records for almost 2 months after adopting.
In his medical record there was numerous incidents with emergency room visits and severe behavioral issues! And his mother passed away from an extremely aggressive form of HCM this last year.
If a breeder or owner isn’t willing to disclose information about the cat and its history (including family history), RUN!!!
