(I know that a few months ago there was a thread about the difference in owning a male sphynx, as opposed to a female sphynx. But, since that thread hasn't been updated in a while, and there are so many new members, I wanted to ask again! So, hope you don't mind me repeating this question if you answered one similar before.)

So---What do you prefer owning, males or females? (Pet Only, but I hope to show in the alter class at some point!) Of course, we all love our babies, but, I've been debating in my mind whether I would prefer to own a male or female, and I thought it would be nice to hear your insight or examples that you think are helpful.

Thanks!

Well having both it is a tough question for me. They are both loyal and sweet but if I had to just pick one I would go with a male. I love Athena and would not trade her for the world, if you plan on adding more than one I would do females and 1 male because adding more than one male fixed or not there is always the chance of them marking. Hope this helps a bit.

I do love the big mancats...but...

My Gable is such a snuggle bug. He has not left my side since I came home. He will sleep next to me in bed. He is always chirping and talking to me. Now my Amaryllis is the princess. She is such a play baby! Oh my goodness this girl makes us laugh! She is a cuddler too. She loves to ride on shoulders and all you have to do is look at her and she purrs and purrs. She loves to snuggle right up next to me in bed.

So with that being said, I think it is the individual cat personality, however I do hear many people saying the males seem to be the snugglers.

I prefer girls.
I show cats also and the only cat that does not act up in the ring is Wrinkles.
She loves everyone but my most loving sphynx is Cleo.
She will lick your face and loves sleeping with me at night.

In all of my years with cats in general, my males have always had the best disposition and been the most friendly people cats; however, my females had the cutest antics and I loved them all. I just got my first naked cat 3.5 weeks ago and I wanted a snuggly male-type personality, so I went with male...when I told the breeder my reasons for wanting a boy (although I never had a sphynx before), she validated my thoughts that her opinion was, too, that boys are more cuddly.

I can't judge males vs females for sphynx's, as I've got two boys, never had a girl.

for regular cats, however, I'd say males are more social with everyone, but a girl kitty will bond very close with a single person.

I have had 2 girls and 2 boys. They are all unique. I don't think I will ever know another Sphynx with as much bravado as little miss Cleo. I mean that little girl whooped on a rooster and a dog. She was not afraid of one thing. Everyone of them were snuggle bugs and big lovers. I miss my past Sphynx SO MUCH. I would say that I would like a little girl to dress up again. Miss Cleo had her designer cat-wear that I made for her. Her Audry Catburn black cashmere dress with rhinestone choker, Her Joan Catford tan sweater with mink collar....it was fun. Love you missy girl.

I love my babies so much! but my male is much more affectionate. When my fiancee went to buy me my kitty he asked the breeder which of the 2 sexes would be more affectionate and she said males tend to me, so he bought me Bronxe. and he's DEF my baby! my females love being pet, and they love sitting next to me. but they like lovin' on their terms. Bronxe loves lovin' at any time, all time, bring it on! :) But i've noticed my male's tail get the black heads more then females and my girls are a little more easy going about bath time...
but my answer is males.

Technically if the cats are intact, there will be a difference is disposition in males and females due to the hormones and the way affect each sex. If the cats are altered, their little goodies and bits don't come into the equation. That being said, my males have always been sweeter. My male sphynx are a constant source of cuddles and love. Berlin, my intact female is extremely playful but has these moments of intense affection, I feel nearly molested, and she has not cycled yet so I can't imagine her in heat!!!! Berlin is a big trouble maker but I think that's her individual personality. They all cuddly in my arms under the blankets each night. I have no preference, I love my little princess and can't live without my boys!

I have to agree with Mews2much....my girl kitties, both sphynx and nonsphynx, have always been more loving and cuddlier. My boys are more playful and mischievious. It mostly depends on the individual cat, though...each have their own unique personality.

I personally find boys to be mush-heads and much more submissive then girls. BUT with that said... I do have some girls that are the biggest sweeties ever.

The advice I give my pet owners is: Put all your preconceived notions about sex related personality aside and fall in love with the kitty. When you see the picture (if not close to the breeder) or when you meet them; let him/her pick you :)~

We've had two males and two females, and I think we've both preferred males. Don't get me wrong - the females are awesome. But I truly think the males exemplify what we love about the Sphynx breed. Extremely friendly and outgoing, adventurous, and very affectionate and loving. The males in our experience have been a lot like puppies, loving trips to the vet, to Petsmart, or just out to a park to meet people. Our females have been a little more sterotypical in the cat way, meaning they want attention on their schedule and aren't as outgoing. In some ways you have to work harder for the females - and really, that's ok. :) You know you've earned their love.
