Meet my newest rescue

Ok, not really a pet question or answer, but wasn't sure where else to put this. I knew that you guys would appreciate this little girl! I haven't named her yet, I just picked her up from a petshop a couple days ago, she's got 2 luxated patellas and will need surgery to repair both legs. According to the paper work, she's almost 5 months, I don't buy it, I'm guessing her to be no older then 13-14 weeks, she's got all her baby teeth still, and she's barely over 5 lbs (5.2 lbs to be exact). She can't really use her rear left leg much, and she has no muscle tone - She's spent her entire life in a cage at a mill or a pet store She came from a big puppy mill in IA known as Honeytree Kennels, and was sold to Lambriar, one of the most worst brokers I've had the displeasure if handing puppies they'd sold to petshops. Thankfully her cycle of abuse and neglect ended Thursday, and now she's safe, loved, and will be well care for the rest of her life. The pet store kept her for 7 weeks, nobody wanted her due to her bad legs, they knew her as "Clearance Puppy" If anyone has any good suggestions for names - Let me know! I'm working on coming up with fundraisers to pay for her surgeries, so if anyone has good fundraiser ideas let me know on that, too! I've had another I've gone through this before, she ended up costing me close to $5000 by the time it was over, I'm suspecting bills will be similar or higher for her, as her left leg seems worse then Tina's was,she's already not putting weight on it, and she didn't have as good of a start as Tina (Tina's mom was rescued while she was pregnant, so she never knew anything but the good life). That was 4 years ago, though, so prices may be alot higher now.

She's got a long road ahead of her, I'm taking her in next week for x-rays and a detailed exam with my orthopedic specialist. I know normally he advises me to wait until they're 10-12 months and their growth plates close before doing surgery, so looks like ths little one will be with me for quite a while! Not that I REALLY care, she's such a sweet little girl, who's been through (pardon my language) hell in her life so far, but that's all over now, she'll never know hunger or neglect again! At least she's just a baby, the adult puppy mill dogs are so much harder to bring back around and teach to trust again!

Bless you for rescuing her. Will your vet give you a discount since she's a rescue? Call your local news station or newspaper and ask them to do a story on her to help raise money for her vet bills. Put jars around town with her picture and story on it for people to put money in. Do a bake sale or ask the local elementary school to do a hat day or a service learning project to help raise money for her surgery. Ask a school to "adopt" her--you give them updates and visits from the pup and they earn money to help her. Our local kindergartens and first graders have raised money enough to give heart worm treatments to two dogs, bought two microchip scanners for our animal control departments and have raised enough for major renovations to our animal control facility. Don't underestimate the power of kids to help--get friendly with a teacher and ask for her help to promote this in her school. Teaches the kids compassion and empathy. Ask for donations for a yard sale for her...contact brownie and girl/boy scout troops, ask kids to shovel snow for her or rake yards for her....ask them to do anything they can.

No, my Sphynx rescue boy is still in Vegas, I'm having a terrible time figuring out how to get him here! I've got to somehow find the time and money to go back to Vegas before February, my time's running out LOL I'll just pick him up when I make the trip to Vegas my self at this point!

Thank you so much for all the great ideas! I don't know many teachers, but I'll see what I can do on that idea - That might be a great way to raise some money for her!

Well, I must admit, I'm glad I DIDN'T find her, the pet shop found me! I hate this pet shop with a passion still, but now they have a TINY bit of respect from me for being willing to surrender this girl to my rescue so I can get her the help she needs instead of euthanizing her or passing her off on some unsuspecting family!

I m so glad to hear that you rescued this cute little girl. I have a special place in my heart for Iggies. I own one named Reagan. She came to us from a breeder in Ohio and she had a hernia so no one wanted her they said. She is such a joy to have around. I hope you all the best with your new addition!! I have 4 iggies of my own - Hannah's a mill rescue, but also an AMAZING dog in many ways, I've done so many sports with her - Agility, lure coursing, obedience, rally, fly ball - There's yet to be a challenge placed in front of her that she hasn't excelled at! Aiyana and Ayasha are sisters, I actually co-bred their litter, I showed both their parents to their championships. Their dad is now in Canada 2 points away from his canadian title, their mom is now spayed enjoying a pet life. Ayasha I show, Aiyana was born deaf, but I feel in love with her amd begged the co-breeder to let me keep her as well. And then there's little Uri, my newest family member - He's 5 1/2 months now, and the mellowest pup I've ever had the joy of sharing my home with! He's also deaf, these deaf iggies are just extra special to me!!! Both my deaf are solid whites. This little girl looks ALOT like my Ayasha at that age!

I've been showing IGs since 2006, rescuing them since 2005. I've rescued over 300, mostly mill rescues, and found most of them new loving homes. Sadly, they can't all been save, and it breaks my heart every time one of my rescues dies before it finds it's forever home, but it just makes me that much more determined to shut these mills down!

As others have said, it just means Italian Greyhound, I get so use to the term I often forget alot of people have no idea what I mean when I say IG or Iggy. Wonderful little dogs, I've owned them for 6 wonderful years now, and, like my Sphynx, will probably never be without one or two in my life!

My mum is adopting an itlalian greyhound at the moment! They are lovely little dogs, she is so sweet and I'm glad she found you. She does need a cute little girly name like lilly or daisy.

My mom has two IG's Lucia and Valentino (Tino for short). Then we had a retired greyhound Lilly and she was the sweetest. She has passed, RIP.

I love the name Fawn! We also had a retired greyhound rescue that has since passed of bladder cancer.
