Hey all,
I have had Sabrina for almost a month now, and I am finally moving out of my dad's house to my own 1 bedroom home. I feel bad about moving her again, but I have to.:( I move this Tuesday and I plan on keeping her at my dads until Tuesday night, when I will be 95% moved in. Most of the stuff will be the same anyway. Any tips to make this less stressful on her? Tips on moving with sphynx in general/warming up to the new place?
She is currently doing awesome, such a cuddler and little ball of energy and love!!:shame:
She will be going to the vet this week also to get her next round of vaccinations/check up!
Thanks everyone

She will probably do great. Just make sure she knows where her litterbox and food are, and watch that she doesn't get let outside accidently. We've moved cats a lot and they usually love exploring the new place.
Oh yeah, Congratulations on your new place!

Also, be sure to do a good "pre-check" on the new home:

  • Screens in all the windows
  • Cubby spaces or odd small places she can get into or stuck that need covering

@celesteandbrina - Congrats on your new place :) Sabrina is soo pretty!

IMHO, I would confine Sabrina to where her litter box will be ( bathroom , bedroom) let her adjust and move about at her own comfort level supervised at first- I would update her microchip address if she is chipped- I update mine on line with the homeagain brand chip and added a photo. I got my kitties chipped when neutered/spayed.

I would walk out doors backwards and slowly to contain the Sphynx bolting out doors so many try. I also open the door very slowly looking at the bottom with my foot there. If it means several trips to bring in groceries or Laundry etc.

If yo have guests over, I would confine to the bathroom or bedroom- a lot of folks aren't used to pets let alone how ghostly fast Sphynx are at escaping! Reinforce guests with your house rules including putting down closing the toilet seat! Our guest left it up and kitty fell in, got sick , cost $225 at the vet-

Would make sure there are no cords from window blinds hanging too- I also had to secure the bathroom cabinet because he would go inside and take everything out! When I moved a long time ago , I could not find my cat- I found him- hiding on top of the kitchen cabinets crouched below the crown molding and the second time in the cabinet space between the dishwasher and sink base stuck- he opened the kitchen sinkbase and crawled thru the dishwasher hose cut out-
For these reasons, I would confine for a couple of weeks till she gets the layout with supervision. Lots of play time toys and treats! When you leave the house, leave her a piece of clothing from you - comforting-

Definitely as suggested, check and double check every nook n cranny, screens, etc-

You are doing great asking ahead for tips- we gave all been there and are here to help :)

Congrats to you and Sabrina on your new place! Keep us updated!

PS: you can ask your vet about microchipping . I know my vet is offering a 25% discount and the registration is a one time 17.99 with Homeagain chips. I have had pets with avid chips too. I prefer homeagain bcz of the user friendly website, pet photo and email lost alerts . You don't have to renew for the upgraded package every year- they won't tell you that unless you ask-I pay once- that's it- they are still registered after "their renewal" expires- I just don't need the extra perks for renewal travel insurance, posters.. Etc

How exciting your own place! Hugs to Sabrina from us!

Congrats on your new place. Like @admin said, just make sure everything is safe I would get a Feliway plugin
also like @Lickleone suggested. It might take her a few days to be fully ok with it, but, it will be alright.
Try to stay with her as much as you can until she gets use to it.

I'm sure every cat is different, but I moved 4 times with Fluffy and she loved it. She loved exploring new places. All I did was show her where her food and water and litter box was and she was good to go! She especially loves to sniff around and register any new smells with that cool huffing thing they do...idk what it's called haha.

Sounds like she is well adjusted and I would think she would do fine with the move. Everything will still have your and her smells on it so it will be new but not new.... make sense. I am sure she will enjoy the new house and like exploring all the places she can get into .

Wow!! Thanks for all the tips! I plan on getting her chipped when she's spayed also. Def keep the seat down always!! I am mostly keeping her in my room which has everything, until I figure out how block the fridge coils without them getting too hot. She hasn't tried to hard to squeeze behind it but I know she will!!
Other than that she loves exploring the new place (under supervision hehe) and She has her beloved pink blankie and bed for comfort ;)
Vets today! I will let everyone know Sabrina's status.

Sabrina currently loves the place! She got a bell and is getting used to that. I covered all dangerous areas and I dicovered my digital camera so I am taking lovely pics of her. She is on antibioitics for sneezing, they seem to be working but she still has little spurts of sneeze fits. She is a gem, uploading pics soon! Thanks all for lovely tips always.

@celesteandbrina , awh, adorable in her blankie :)
Do you give Sabrina L-lysine? I have used the enisyl-f past from the vet - it was expensive and only 1 in my 4 will touch it-
Toby came to me with human Now Brand L-lysine 1 lb orange labeled container. I was skeptical but it seems to work for us- all four are new to each other and I use it for maintenance. I sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon on some canned food or their slightly warmed canned 100% pure pumpkin like Libby's brand.

Lots of good threads on L-Lysine - your vet may be able to tell you more about it from a vet perspective.

Soo glad Sabrina is loving life :) give her kisses from us!

@Yoda mom She is prescribed to an antibiotic for 10 days as of now. Its called Clavamox. It seems to be helping - she is sneezing a lot less. I also have been giving her L-lysine treats by GNC pets brand (250 mg each) for as long as I've had her. I just drop one treat in her food daily. Not sure if that did anything really, but the Clavamox is working and she likes the banana taste:kiss: lol. My little girl is healthy and full of energy as of now, thank god. Next is the getting "fixed" part.. haha!
