This is going to be pretty short, because I’ve been awake since 4:30 am and I wanted to do this before I went to bed. About 2 1/2 weeks ago, Marcus, who has always had a cast iron stomach, developed really bad, yellow, stinky diarrhea. And he broke his litter box training to start pooping in our living room. Our vet had us give a medicine called Mirataz, in his ear, along with prescription biome diet, which helped for a few days, but the pooping kept coming back. Now we have covered the floor where he’s been pooping, and Bob’s chair with plastic bubble wrap. He pooped on the wrap and the chair, so the vet came back and gave him a steroid shot yesterday. Today, we had no poop-instead he peed all over the bubble wrap in one corner. At one point, we put a litter box in one corner of the bubble wrap, but the only one who used it was Foxy. Now it's back on the area where he peed.
We have been using our favorite enzyme cleaner, and we had a sample tested. There were no parasites, no Giardia or other viral diseases present, and no blood. Marcus has lost almost two pounds, even though he's eating and drinking fine. But, here is the thing. We've paid out over $400.00 in two weeks, and more tests will cost more than we can afford. Health insurance for these two became prohibitively expensive as they aged, so that's out. Our tender-hearted son is helping as much as he can, but he's really upset, because I am at the end of my rope. We cannot keep cleaning up all of this, and I do not want Marcus suffering.
We have always been committed to giving our pets the best life possible, but right now, that's not happening. Oh, and did I mention that all three humans had the flu during this time, too?
This is turning into a pity party, and that's not why I'm posting. The flu is gone. We're calling the vet again in the morning, and he's answering our calls, even when he's closed. Our poor Marcus.
