hi friends.
So I'm writing with a heavy heart seeking some comfort in those who have any experiences with polyps. I drove 10 hours to pick up my very first Sphynx kitten from a breeder and arriving I was told my kitten was coming home discounted because the vet had just told them he has a poly(in his throat). The breeder assured me that it's a quick fix best to do when I'm getting him nuetured and made it sound like it was not a big issues at all. (I had never heard or polyps before and I believe him). However the more I read online the more scary it seems and the more worried that I'm going to be spending thousands of dollars on this "little issue" just to always come back. I'm so upset and couldn't sleep at all because I've been crying and so stressed about the health of this kitten. His vet appointment isn't for another 2 days and my anxiety is up to wall. I thought I'd seek any solstice of anyone who has had experience with polyps in kittens? Anything to lift my spirits):

My cat has nasal polyps, my understanding is that they usually appear as a side effect of a stubborn upper respiratory infection, in our case it was calicivirus but herpes is another one that could cause those. I would ask the breeder if he was sick for your awareness.

Ask your breeder if she is willing to help with any costs incurred due to this issue. If it's something like herpes there may be recurring issues as an example.

Our cat Gus is finally recovering from his respiratory issues which cost us $$$ in vet bills but his noisy breathing remains due to the suspected polpys and damage that was done to his lungs. In our case he will probably need his inhaler for life. But other than this he is the happiest cat.

Best to wait and see what your vet says, it might be something minor. Doing a respiratory PCR panel might be a suggestion to check for any lingering respiratory infections that may worsen the problem.

@Meggymason , Awh ((hugs))))
What is your boys name? Hope you can share a pic of him

We are here for you

Were you able to talk to the breeder?
Do you have a written contract that has specifics for a vet visit within a certain time ? amd recourse options in the contract?

I would take a deep breath , don't read too much om the Internet and go with your vets suggestions -
Try Take one step at a time -
You can call your vet and ask if they have any cancellations that you may be able to get in sooner for peace of mind -
I am so sorry you are going thru this with your new baby

Please keep us updated amd give your boy smooches from me
Snuggle up with him with a warm blanket
I am sure sure he wants only your love amd doesn't want to see you cry

Hopeful nothing serious amd lots of positive vibes sent

Let us know your vets diagnosis
I also ask during my routine visits to take a good listen to heart for any murmurs and lung sounds
Just to get a good baseline

(((((Hugs)))))
Hope you can update a pic and his name

I can't say I know anything about polyps in cats but I'm humans they are usually just benign, annoying little things. I would hope and imagine that if it is very superficial it can just be snipped off. How does the breeder know he has a polyp? Does she have any medical photos or labs to give us more detail?

Thank you all for responding, it helps having such a caring community. I took him to the vet and was relieved that my vet saw no polyps at all and thought maybe his first vet misdiagnosed (it was also 9 weeks ago). My breeder had told me that he "might" have had one and just in case he did my lovely breeder discounted me a huge amount just because he wanted me to save money in case he would need it removed. Luckily my vet happily told me he seems very healthy and will look deeper for polyps when he is sedated and getting neutered. However, my little boy may have "feline rat ulcer" which sounds worse than it is (and not related to a rat bite). His cute little lips are cut up on top (sometimes caused by allergies) and if its not gone in 8 days we will be going back to get a steroid shot which is usually all it takes. Anyway I feel guilty I have yet to post a gotcha day (It's been hectic and wonderful all at the same time with my little man) but will do so tonight as I am finishing a big exam I have been studying for (with him cutely distracting at home:)). Thanks for the advice I will post a introduction forum of him tonight, he is too cute not to share! <3

I'm grateful to be a part of this lovely sphynx community!
HUGS! <3
