I know I have read on here that some kitties get hairier as time goes on but Twitch is getting more hair on here back and it is starting to look like mange or a bit of an Afro. I almost want to have it off her at times. I know that sounds silly but she licks alot and then it even looks worse. I love her either way but has anyone ever clip there hairless cat? She just seems to pay alot of attention to it and not sure if it bothers her or not. She has always had some on her tail but that looks kinda cute. Will she maybe lose it when it gets warmer? It is Texas so it never gets very cold. Anyone have any advice? I will probably just leave it but her constant licking on it kinda freaks me out.

thanks
tess

I noticed that Kreacher got more hair this winter. It's not really cold here in southeastern GA, but I assume going from 100 degrees to 50 degrees is enough of a change to kick thier body into "Winter Coat" mode. But he is also still growing so it could be that he's just growing more fur..I dunno lol. I'll wait for summer to come around and see if it thins out a little bit ;)

Lol! I WISH Kreacher would clean himself!! the only time he does is after he's gotten a bath!! Go figure!!

That does sound strange. Lemmy has grown some hair on his tail due to the weather, but no where else. I am not sure if you should clip it or not, but if it bothering her and you think it could be mange, I would take her to the vet.

Chip (Moosh) has some on his "hips" and tail. I remember one day at the vet a woman was there with her 2 monster size cats and asked if I shave mine eveyday? I laughed and told her that I hate to even shave my own hair! Thank god for blonde hair!!!

She had heard of the Sphynx breed before but never had seen them in person. I explained the natural mutaion and that they are not shaved. She smiled ... a strange sort of smile.

A vet asked me once if I used Nair on Stella. She was being serious. :Dizzy:
But I took it as though she assumed Sphynx grew a little hair and perhaps I do not like that and I remove any hair growth. I don't, though. lol Stella grew a little more fuzz on her hips in the beginning of winter, but it has decreased since.

Tess: I like your avatar picture, by the way. I wanted to tell you that a while back!

Is Twitch spayed?

Yeah she is spayed. The vet said it was nothing to worry about but it seems like it bothers her because she licks on it alot. Yeah mine always clean each other as well, especially after the bath. Yeah her tail got hairy and then two hip patches and then her back. I guess I will see what happens when the weather gets nicer. Besides her tail she was very hairless before. She is still such a cutie though, Even with her afro and hairy saddle bags.

Hi Tess,
Do your Sphynx frequent sitting in sunny areas of the house? window sills, etc. This can cause hair growth on the Sphynx cat. Also hormones at certain times.

My sister's cat, MooMoo, has a bunch of wavy hair like that too--she started getting it after she was spayed and it never goes away on her. My cats get hairier when they are pregnant but it usually goes away after the babies are weaned. So, I think it's definitely a hormone thing.

I can't see the wavy-ness but that is too funny. It does look kind of think. Is it soft or thick?

It is thick but very soft. The waves are hard to pick up on the picture butthey are so funny. She looks like a bit of a mess right now poor girl. But that little face makes up for her afro.

Hey guys thanks for all the help. After talking to the breeder she does not have any devon in her blood lines that is known. Funny thing is in the last two days a bunch of the hair in the middle has fallen out. She was laying in the window the last few days because it was very sunny. It is funny now because she looks like a bald mans head with a hair ring around the outside!!! Seems to continue to fall out so I guess it was a winter thing.

Thanks everyone

My Abby has that patch right at the base of her tail of long hair also. It is VERY loose. With her, if we brush it with a bristle brush or pull it lightly in comes out. Then we give it to her to play with. She seems to have to clue it was ever attached to her! Her rear patch has been really bad this year. Of couse, it is the first winter we have had in Texas in quite a few years!

From Canada so can't really complain much about having to wear a jacket. Yeah both my kitties have that at the base of there tail as well. Being my first year with these guys I really don't know what to expect!!
