hi all,
please help!!!!! i am freaking out here. i just noticed one of my female's (milky's) front paw is swollen. i dont know what to do. It is not irritating her--- she is not limping or licking it. there is nothing stuck in her paw. her nails are fine- not irritated. It doesnt seem to bother her. what could have caused this? what should i do? any input would be greatly apprecitated.

Maybe she hit it on something.
You can always call the vet and take her in to mae sure she is alright.

Since it doesn't seem to be painful, I wonder if it could be from a bug bite or bee sting. Has she been outside recently?

she hasnt been outside. i put a warm rag on it and it has drastically gone down within the last hour. seeing her paw swollen really freaked me out. i wonder what it could have been from. i thought maybe my male, River, bit her, but there are no marks or anything on her paw. if it swells up again i will take her to the vet. thanks everyone for your help.

Are her claws ok? Maybe she has a nail bed infection thats made her paw swell, but if she isn't licking it thats probably not the case. Its not bothering her though so its a mistery!

That's a good sign! I would still guess it was a bug bite - that's where cats get them most often, from swatting at insects. I don't know about where you live, but here in Florida, those darn bugs (and lizards) come into my house whether I like it or not and the cats get a thrill trying to catch them. I don't usually pay attention to it, but after seeing her swollen paw, maybe I'll watch more closely - that is definitely scary!!

Fingers crossed that she's all better!!

My other cat got a bee sting to her front paw a couple of months back and it was really scarey her paw swelled up to about 3times the size of her other and around her ankle was also swollen. she was licking at it a lot though and couldn't walk on it for a few hours. Cold water helped bring the swelling down and i managed to find and pull out the sting. I was really worried at first though.
