Hi

I have a 3 year old male neutered sphynx called Wiggy. I rescued him about 3 or 4 months ago and he is a bully to my other cats. I have tried EVERYTHING, 2 vet visits,1 pet behavioral specialist and loads of calls to anyone who will listen!!

A breeder of 20 years experience sent me some Ovarid tablets, I gave them to my cat and a huge improvement happened overnight.

However my vet will not prescribe them and i cannot get hold of any more - can anyone out there help me.

This medication is prescribed for short periods of time to help settle a cat.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not really sure why your kitty is being a bully. The tablets you speak of are known to induce diabetes in kitties tho so that's probably why your vet won't prescribe them. From what I've read its not something you want to use on a long term basis.

Have you tried using Feliway difusers or sprays? Sounds like you have certainly covered your options in a short time frame so good job for taking an active roll. What was the determination of the pet behavorialist? I put alot of faith in them and often times with pets you have to take the hard road when it comes to attitude. It's possible your kitty would best be suited in a one pet home.

Goodluck, hopefully some of the other members will have more to offer than me.
Welcome to the Lair!

I'm sorry your kitty isn't being nice. I have never heard of those tablets.

I second Christina's recommendation for Feliway. It can be very helpful.

In the mean time try to keep them seperated when you can't supervise. Make sure each kitty has a litter box. Make sure they have their own space to play and sleep. Oh and of course watch feeding times.

Ovarid is used for specific things and shouldn't be used without vet monitoring.
You cannot get it over the counter in the US.
When was your male neutered? If in the past 6 months his hormone levels are still going down?
Do you know anything about his life before he was with you? If he was used as a stud he might have lived alone . I second about the he might have to be a only cat in the house.

My older male can be a bit pushy and we did a year of Welbutrin/Buspar 7 years ago to help him adjust. This I did with my vet. It is a very affordable treatment.

Pam Johnson-Bennet's books have helped a lot expecially Psyhco Kitty. (yes, that is the real name of the book)

I always use Feliway in the house. It keeps things peaceful.

Welcome to Sphynx Lair. I would try separating him from the others and trying the feliway diffusers for several days before reintroducing him to the others. Good luck.

My altered male picks on my girls also.
He bit my poor Wrinkles in the head.
We tried Feliway and Rescue Remedy and it did not face him.
Sounds like your cat is way worse then my boy.
I have heard of that med and many vets will not prescribe it because they do not like the side effects it can cause.

Watch out for the side effects....
We used to have this HUGE bully cat named PounceQuick (it turned out his problem was jealousy of my room mate and her favorite cat).
The vet tried alot of different drugs on him... I remember one made him into a zombie. He slept and wandered aimlessly. We watched him walk into a wall and took him back to the vet. Then she suggested this one that "might increase his appetite." We video taped him killing a loaf of bread, ripping open our grocery bags for uncooked pasta and defeating our child-guard latches for a bag of crackers. We titled it "RAVENOUS" and gave the vet a copy.
