Need a Sphynx Specialist in CoronaVirus In South Florida

Hello All!

My 1 year old sphynx kitten was recently diagnosed with CoronaVirus. I am waiting on more test results to pick up the paper work. I am looking for a specialist that can help my kitty. Sadly I looked up the breeder that I purchased my sphynx from and I found two reviews from the time I purchased my kitten that stated that their sphynx s had horrible deaths within a month of receiving their kitties and both had FIP. I am assuming my Machida has the same and was probably sent to me with the disease. What is so upsetting is that the breeder never contacted me nor did she inform me of the littermates deaths and virus' I could have taken action sooner and would not have had to find out the hard way after he has lost a bunch of weight in a short period of time. If any body has advice of reporting this breeder to TICA her vet or even the police I would take any advice I can take.

BUYER BEWARE and do your research.

@MajikkuMachida I'm so very sorry that Machida is diagnosed with the corona virus. A lot of cats do have the coronavirus but only a small number of them get FIP. The coronavirus itself is not dangerous. It can turn into FIP when a cat is still young or when something changes in his life (like moving to a new home). My both boys do have the coronavirus so that's why I know a little about it.
Hope you find a specialist vet in your area. And all fingers and paws crossed for Machida.

Btw it's a good thing you want to warn other people. But we're not allowed to name breeders here. If you want to warn people you can say the area and people can send you a pm to ask the breeders name.

Thank you, the post has been edited. I will definitely add the area as it is not a common city or town. I don't know yet if he has FIP I just picked up his results and he is positive for FCV (IFA). My vet told me there is nothing we can do and his is fatal. He told me that his Protein and Globulin levels are high and that his little body is fighting off something. In his results I noticed that is urea is low and Na/k ratio and Precision PSL are high. His Hemoglobin and Hematocrit are also low.

I hope there is a miracle out there for him. I am giving him extra love and attention in the meantime. I am trying to get him to eat but his appetite is still bad.

Bless his heart and your's. So sad. So many lousy breeder's
out there breeding just for money. The babies and owner's suffer.
But, they don't care. Here is a link they can be reported.

Hi all, thank you all for the support. I have now taken Machida to 5 different vets including a cardiologist and I am sad to report that it is indeed Dry FIP. He has had a CBC test, urinalysis, a chest X ray, abdominal X ray, echocardiogram, and abdominal ultrasound. It is such a horrible disease. He is still fighting but not doing good at all. I am struggling with the decision to euthanize him. It is against my nature to give up. The disease has hit his central nervous system and he wobbles when he tries to walk. Of all the places I took him only one offered to help me fight. They gave me nutrients, a appetite stimulator and a beta blocker for a heart murmur that was discovered and I actually hoped at one point it was heart failure vs. FIP. It wasn't what he needed but it helped me help him a little bit. All these vets cared about was to get me in the door charge me then tell me that they are not willing to treat him. This disease is probably still fatal because these vets just write it off as untreatable. I did so much research and found some drugs that help but since they are classified as experimental no one would prescribe them to my machida. The one that shows promise in dry FIP is PI and I even called the company to find vet's in my area that may carry it. It is currently only FDA approved to treat the herpes virus. I even contacted the top researcher for FIP Dr. Pedersen who was very kind to respond and offer advice. I stubbornly did not believe it was FIP and was hopeful I would get to the bottom of it because everyone was so easy to draw the conclusion that it was FIP and everything I read was that it is difficult to diagnose and often misdiagnosed. I can't pick up the phone to make that last call for him. My sister even offered to do it for me. I want to keep him so bad. I can't let go, I love him so much. Just the thought brings me to tears.
