Hello!!
Me and my boyfriend have been looking around for almost 6 months for a sphynx cat/kitten and have been reading everything we can get our hands on. I need advice from people who have the breed, because no matter how much we want one, we don’t want to be selfish and being a little prince or princess into our home without it being a perfectly comfortable home.

We live in North Carolina and have wooden floors, and big windows. It’s an older house that was just split into 4 apartments and we’re on the top floor. Since it’s older and hardwood floors, it gets a little drafty. We’ve sealed up the windows best we could over the past winter. My biggest worry is how would we go about making sure we take every precaution, blankets, beds, rugs, whatever works that we’ll be able to leave on without worrying while we’re at work, or if it’d just be unfair and better to wait until we move in a couple years to a better place.

Second of all, we both for 9-5’s monday-friday. We come straight home every night, we don’t go out on the weekends, we’re home bodies. I’m just worried, because I read that they get depressed being alone for long periods of time, if that during the day would be too long, or if i’m just overworrying.

Please let me know, we want to do this the right way!!

I live in Alberta, Canada and we had -32 Celsius weather today. My kitty knows to cuddle under a blanket. As for being alone all day, I don't know I just work one day per week. I believe she just sleeps all day because she greets me at the door yawning and stretching. She lets me know if she is bored by giving me little nips on the hand when I am cuddling her. Then I just bring out her favorite toys.

This is my first Sphynx and a wonderful breed of cats! I say go for it, you won't be disappointed!

This is SUPER helpful, thank you!! Do you think the hardwood flooring would be bad in the winters? I mean winters don't get terrible here, but I know they need to stay really really warm. Should I get anything specific for the house?

We have hardwood floors and keep our heat down. We just have piles of blankets and they all spend most of the day sleeping in them. You can also buy a heated bed.

It's great you're doing so much research and want to make sure you can offer a good home for your sphynx. Already loving sphynx parents before you have a sphynx. That's true love!
I'm sure your sphynx does well with the cold when you put out lots of blankets. I boughht snuggles pouches for my crew were they crawl in.
Most sphynx will sleep when your gone. So being away 8 hours a day won't be a big problem. Specially not when your little one is allowed to sleep with you at night and you play with him/her after work.

We have several A members with one kitty households and they do just fine
They sleep lot during the day and are heat seekers
Amd love those cheap 50x60 soft blankies

I do not put clothes on my sphynx especially unsupervised bcz my one got a leg caught in the sweater and nearly hung herself right in front of me

So mine go naked amd have several 50x60 soft throw blankets they actually prefer over s heated cat bed which I wouldn't leave on if I wasn't home anyway

Lots of play time - so,e before you leave for work amd then when you get home

They get into a routine

A kitty will be blessed with your hearts and home!

Keep us updated often!

All paws crossed the sphynx stars align soon! The right one will find you :)

Be careful too with the fraud out there
go with your gut!

I have adopted adults amd even one that was a retiree breeder after one litter .
Just want to put it out there if you are considering an adult adoptee

Highly recommended,med kitty proof everything!
Even those heat floor registers thst some places have -
You can out on deflectors
Amd watch hot stove tops-, they are heat seekers for flat op stove in my house

Glad you are doing your research for s purrfect fit for a lifetime commitment :)

I have a one cat household and it works out just fine for us. We have two heated pads that are designed specifically for animals. One is in the bedroom, and one is in the living room so she can go wherever she wants. I do use clothes on her when I’m at home but I never would leave her unsupervised with them on. She also has many choices in blankets.

I was also nervous that our little Merlin would get lonely by himself... so we got him a furry friend, Tansy! Best decision ever. Not only did she teach him manners, they keep each other company. I can't imagine having one without the other. So that's food for thought. Here's a pic of them!
