Hello all,

Can you give me advice what to do? Toa is very sick!
I'll try to explaine as cleary as I can, hope I use all the right words (English is not my native language, so sorry for mistakes is spelling)

He and Ross had diarrhea (smells terrible) since january 6. I waited for 2 days and then went to the vet (one is speciallised in sphynx).

She tested both on parasites like Giardia and Tritrichonas. She saw a parasite with no name (?, she saw it with other spynxes but the specialist have not yet diagnosed it). She gave me Ronidazole for 2 weeks. After one week the diarrhea was still going on so she added antibiotics.

That still didn't stop the diarrhea so she gave special food (Royal Canin Veterinary Diet, gastro Intestinal), iso-gel (homeopathy) and Panacur (fenbendazol) for 5 days.
All this time they did eat, drink and played normal and didn't look sick. They were growing and added weight.

The new medicine helped for Ross and he's healthy now. He's playing and growing like crazy.

But Toa still has diarrhea and since sunday he doesn't want to play anymore. He's drinking and eating normal (drinks more then normal) but is loosing weight.

So to the vet again. She tested Toa again: no parasite, no nothing. Only some gass she could feel. She gave him some pain medication ans gave Metrazol for 8 days and asked me to call her every day to tell her how it's going.

That was monday evening. Here its wednesday morning now. Yesterday the poop of Toa was normal for the first time (I was jumping through the house!). But this morning it was diarrhea again (that made me cry). He still doesn't want to play. His reactions are okay, he doesn't look "sleepy" and eats and drinks good.

The vet want to take him in for observation. She's going to test his blood and urine.

Do you have advice? Are there more thing I have to ask her to examine?

As you can imagine I feel so desperate and sad!

Sorry for the long story, writen in terrible English.

I am sorry that your boy is sick. He is very handsome! Could he have possibly eaten something he shouldn't have? Or, could it possibly be an allergy to the food? I sure hope he feels better soon. I think it's a good idea to have the vet run more tests, and do some observation.
Good luck, I hope your boy feels better soon.

I am sorry to hear Toa is not feeling well. Lair Prayers are sent he feels better soon. I definitely would do the blood and urine tests your vet is recommending. Very odd they cannot name a parasite. If they do keep him for observation the can hopefully get some extra nutrients into him as well.

Thanks Kate, your compliment makes Toa feel a little better!

I changed the food two weeks ago for a special dieet food so I think it's not an allergic reaction.
It's also my concern that he ate someting he shouldn't. Vet says thats not it because Ross did have the same thing (only he's feeling better now). But I suggest that to her again this noon.

Thanks for the advice!

@Catzzzmeow : thanks Patti, I'll ask the vet to give him some extra nutriens.

Not being able to name a parasite seems odd to me to. But hey, I'm living in the Netherlands...such a tiny country short of words:D

I'm not sure..But I'd say feed him more or mostly Wet food of the prescribed diet and little dry unless you already are doing this. Diarrhea may be causing him to drink more.

My female ate a certain wet brand for 2 weeks so well until one day she threw up. I switched proteins chicken, duck, turkey. Tried a different brand of turkey. She puked. I guess I can say she can't eat poultry anymore. My breeder did mention she did not like to eat wet, and I found out why. Ingredients had poultry in it.
She is now eating raw and Canned rabbit! I always add a tablespoon extra water per meal too. Nice firm stool.

I really hope all gets better :) Stay positive

@TorchicPyro :
Thanks for your advice! I think it's possibly the poultry. The vet to stop giving wet food and only give the dry diet food and chicken or turkey.
I just went to see the vet again. Nothing to see in poop, blood or urine. So now she thinks it's the poultry. Hopefullt it is that "simple"!
I just give him the diet food and cooked white fish with isogel and extra water added to him now.

After crying this morning, I'll try to stay positive from now one.
Thanks for the support!

A up dat after being to the vet:
The vet tested Toa again in parasites (3 time, first time there was a parasite)): nothing to see anymore.

Urine test: nothing. Bloodtest: as far as the results are already known: everything okay.

Just short after my first message, when Toa saw me cry, Toa came to me gave me a kiss, walked to his toys and started playing meanwhile looking at me like "see i'm okay, don't worry".

So that made the vet rethink about taking him in for observation and I could take him home!

Tonight I have to watch him and make sure he reacts normal every two hours and makes sure he drinks every two hours. So it's drinking time for Toa and no sleeping time for me:).

The vet thinks maybey he's allergic to poultry (i gave him that every day). So no poultry anymore, hopefully that makes Toa feel better.

Tomorrow I have to phone the vet again to let her know how Toa is doing abd to see if he can stay with me or if he has to go in for observation.
I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Meanwhile Ross is running through the house moowing to his brother "don't be so borring, come play with me":).

I hope poultry is the problem. Bless his heart. I would feed them both all they wanted.
I don't think it will hurt them. They need the weight. Keep us updated on them.

@Hairless Blessing : thanks for the support! They can eat the dry diet food all day long as much as they and they get the cooked white fish 3 times a day (I think Ross is hoping his brother will stay sick for a couple of days so the 3 times a day won't go back to 1 time a day;)).
