I just got my new baby last Thursday. His name is Gibson. He seems to be doing really good...he is eating and drinking good and using his litterbox. He is having the occasional sneeze but no snot or anything else....I'm thinking his little nose is just very sensitive? He also has mushy poop :Badly: I have been trying to find a solution to this....as I don't think he is sick. He goes about 3 times a day and it isn't even close to watery. I have read that some of you use canned pumpkin...which I did manage to find...YAY! How much should I give him and how often? Also, how long will the pumpkin last in the fridge? Thank you so much...it's good to be able to get advice since I haven't had a kitten since I was in 8th grade!

Sorry I can't really help, not a pumpkin knowledgable person...but just wanted to say Gibson is adorable and welcome to the Lair.

Gibson sure is a cutie:ThumbsUp:

For the poop you can use pumpkin just a little spoon full but no worries because you really can not over dose on the stuff:LOL:
I use the big can for the dog and have it in the fridge for about a week. Not really sure on how long it can stay in there maybe a baker can help us out.
Being that he is still a baby I would keep a eye on it though and if it continues have another fecal done.
As for the sneeze lysine is good to give and helps the immune system but again make sure there is nothing going on with that. If is gets worse off to the vet you go:Wink:

He is very cute and looks so small!! I have tried the pumpkin before, it worked very well but is just difficult to get hold of here, or I'd probably use it more often!

A few things may be going on with his poo- he may just be stressed and therefore have runny poop that should resolve itself in the next few days or he has giardia, which will not show on a normal fecal smear at the vet's 99.9% of the time and it is very common in multicat households, which means a lot of catteries have dealt with it.

If it doesn't resolve itself this week or in the next few days, you need to ask your vet for some Flagyl. While kittens do not typically act sick when they have giardia, it must be very hard on their tummies- just like chronic diarrhea would not feel good for you.

You have gotten excellent advice from the others, I have nothing to add other than to make sure you he is drinking his water and stays hydrated.

He is such a cutie! I can't wait to see more photos and see him grow...so cute!

Thank you all for the advice...I have been keeping a very close eye on him. It's hard not to! If he doesn't get better in the next couple of days we will see the vet again. Like I said...not sneezing any more than he was and his face looks clear. He is drinking his water good and has a great appetite. I just hope he isn't a chronic mushy pooper lol. I start work soon and I can't be waitin at the litterbox all the time with a wipe in my hand :Hysterical:

You already got great advice from everyone.
He is cute.
Was he shipped?
Sometimes kittens will get sick when they first come.
It happened to me before.

He is so adorable!! Congrats :)

Ducky was shipped, she rode in the cabin of the plane with the breeder and she caught a little something from the stress of her journey.

i give my kitties 1 tablespoon a night.
i scoop all the pumpkin out into a tupperware bowl and it'll last in the fridge about 4-5 days... beyond that i have noticed it to mold.
if you're feeding just one kitty, i would suggest using the small cans, rather then the double sized cans.
canned pumpkin was a GREAT soulation for my kitty. it also helps my other kitty's skin irritation (pumpkin is often use for face masks, etc)
Also try a high protein/high fiber diet. When i first started to fix our poo situation i was recommended to use Iam's Hairball Forumla. it actually worked VERY VERY well. but if your food is working well, stick with it.
also, our vet recommended us to use food such was green pea and duck and the rabbit formula.. all kinds of stuff and NOTHING worked! Iam's may not be the best but it actually worked really good for us.
i recently switched to Taste of The Wild which is also a high protein food and has no fillers/no bipiducts .
There's a thread from a few months ago of all types of food rec's- you should take a look.
Good luck!
