hi, I am Jen, I run a grooming shop and am being brought a 8 yr old sphynx girl on Monday. She is not very well taken care of, the first time I seen her a couple months ago it was late and we (another groomer and I) were closing up.........In walked a lady asking questions and telling a story of a neighbors cat that had got out and had been missing for a few weeks, and now that it showed back up they needed to "get it cleaned" before they could bring it in their house. At this point I had no idea what kind of cat it was. So I told her sure go get her and we will take care of her.....in she walks with this towel in a ball....inside was this poor old lady sphynx. The poor thing was covered in dirt and her ears were full of yuck and her eyes...one droopy, both irritated, her nails had buildup where they met the toes. She was very pitiful. I was amazed that someone could let any cat, but especially one as special as a sphynx get in this condition or even let her outside. I questioned these things, the neighbor said "she just lets her outside and she's always running away!" I mean does this lady not have a clue or what. So we cleaned this baby up, who they didn't even know the name of, and I told her if the owner doesn't want her then bring her back to me.
Well now today, the owner shows up at the shop and says "my neighbor brought my cat in a couple months ago and said someone here wanted the cat." I knew immediately who she was, she then says she wants rid of the cat because the neighbors cat attacked her. So I told her yes I will take her, now instead of going and getting her right then, she leaves her number and tells me to call her that evening. This lady has not taken proper care of this baby from all I have researched and read. She doesn't even bath her monthly, so much for weekly! When I asked what her name was I was told "oh cats don't learn their names, I just call her cat." WTH?!?! People suck!!!
So I have now talked to my husband and called her and we will be meeting Monday so I can bring this baby home with me.
Now for the title......I would love nothing more than to keep this baby and for everything to go well in my home as my children and myself have always had a place in our hearts and a want for a sphynx cat. My girls were estatic when I told them we were going to pick her up. But I have no idea if she is sick, or if anything is wrong with her, I do know she isn't spayed. In our home already is a 9 mo. Neutered Bengal cat name Chauncey, 4 yr old 90# American Bulldog named Esme and a 4# Maltese name Babydoll......so the biggest challenge is everyone welcoming this new baby. I plan to seperate the new kitty for as long as I need to, I think the dogs will be ok, the Bengal on the other hand I'm not sure of. I also cat stand a litter box, we have one, but the bengal goes inside and outside. And this baby won't see outdoors anymore with the exception of through the sliding glass door!
I have purchased d'grease and l-lysine treats already just from reading on this forum. Please let me know what else I need to get. Any info would be wonderful. I have decided to give this baby the name Stella. If anyone knows of a potential adopter located in Florida, I would like to be in touch, I have no plans of letting her go anywhere until I have vetted her and made sure she is ok and back in good health.
