Hello everyone - we just picked up an iggy puppy and he’s 12 weeks old - was wondering about intros and how long it will take kiddos to get used to him.want to start training and socialization ASAP - the breeder had 3 cats living with her and he was ok with them.

When we brought him home, he was very sleepy and gentle and everyone warmed up to him fairly quickly - a little swatting but that’s it, they were so curious about the new puppy and they were pretty playful with him.

Yesterday, he was so energetic and did a lot of whining and I think it scared them a little bit. They’re still curious about him but sit and watch him from far. One of my crew will now hiss at him when he gets too close for comfort and he will just walk away - if the cat doesn’t notice he’s there, or the puppy is calm and sitting, he wont hiss as I said intros are pretty good so far.

I’ve got a feliway happy family diffuser gong to help them relax - otherwise they’re eating and playing and way more laid back than if we were to have brought another cat home.

Can anyone chime in on how long we can expect the transition to last? Two of my cats will cuddle with him when he’s asleep - they’re just afraid of high energy - we have a section just for him so they can choose to be near him or not.

Mandatory puppy tax, meet Dolce:

Congratulations with your new addition to the family. He is so handsome and cute!
When they already sleep close together I think the introduction went really well and fast. I would watch them carefully when the pup has the high energy moments. Try to stop him from chasing the cats or jumping on them. This way they will stay buddies!

Thanks I agree, I think yesterday he had a lot of energy and that’s why they were annoyed with him but this morning he was nice and calm and all 5 of them laid in a pile on the couch. I had him out all day and he’s DEAD tired today so I think movie night will be a huge success.

Paws crossed!

@VolkoSimone , happiest Dolce gotcha!! sooo cute!

I always crate train pups and do slow intros with my adoptees. I recently adopted a 6 yr old aussie never been around cats.
I leashed her with leave it watch me commands this way I can watch body language and keep all paws safe. it also helps to ward off any rambunctiousness with "easy" command etc.
its been 3 weeks, she can be supervised loose with my kitties and is doing good. I monitor and reward calm behavior around kitties.

looking forward to lots of pics and tales!!
