Hi everyone! I got my first sphynx a few months ago - his name is malfoof (cabbage in arabic!) He is the perfect little boy who is so active and loving. I did extensive research before I got him and give him his biweekly baths, clean his ears/nails once a week, and am frequently cleaning his eyes. However, he keeps having health issues (which I think is related to the breeder I got him from). So far, he has been diagnosed with herpes and needs to see an eye specialist. He also has an extremely sensitive digestive system that requires a prescription diet. He also gets these red little bumps scattered around his body and random scraps. Is this normal? I am not sure if they are related to his health issues. I have been to three different vets and I feel like I keep getting bits and pieces of information but nothing complete. Thank you so much for your help.

@ranabb ,welcoming you and Malfoof to the lair family. cute name! hope to see a pic of your baby.
so sorry you have been to 3 vets and getting bits and pieces of info. glad you joined us. do you have a photo of Malfoof's skin to share?

some can be allergic /sensitive to scented litter, fabric softeners, detergent, food. please tell us more about your baby and products used. also overbathing can cause skin issues. let us know what shampoo you use, we will chime in with our experiences. hugs n head smooches.
the sphynx info center is an amazing resource

@ranabb ,Sphynx Skin Conditions

my 4 do get random little scrapes from rough housing, or rubbing on cat tree, carpet scratching posts etc,.

many of us keep on hand vetericyn spray (non toxic) to dab on any small scrapes on our little nakids

we have several members with kitties with sensitive tummies, and others can also chime in about eye issues, herpes
etc. we are here for you. ( I am on FL time and headed to bed soon, will be folllowing for updates, all paws are family. )

Welcome to sphynxlair! Love the name Malfoof. Do you have a pic of him to share.
A sensitive system could be a sign of food allergies. And food allergies can cause bumps and scraps by itching. Maybe you can ask the vet to do an allergy test to begin with?
It could also be a skin issue but I would start with outruling any allergies.

hello! Thank you so much for your willingness to help. I was having some phone troubles but here some pictures of his skin! he also has (what the breeder said were sweat marks?) I use Hylytt shampoo and he eats the Hills prescription gastrointestional diet. I use tide and downy softeners - could it be from that ?.. the third picture is of my sweet boy! The first one shows the sweat mark? And small pimples and second photo shows his scratches. Thank you so much

The stains on the skin could be pigmentation, or yeast infection or a burn from being against a hot object like the back of the television for example the dots around the face are probably allergy from food or environmental allergens. Such as shampoo or litter etc

okay okay thank you ! The issue with changing his food is that he has such a sensitive GI tract that he throws up no matter how slowly I transition into it ! I will try some different litters and shampoos. do you have any shampoo suggestions ?
