I have somewhat of a problem. Butterball won't drink out of his bowl. He'll drink out of my cup. He'll drink out of the bathtub. He'll drink out of a cup I poor for him but not out of the bowl. What gives? I have cups all over the house for that little booger now.

I kinda ran into the same problem with Meecho about four or five months ago. She would refuse to drink from her bowl if it was next to her food. I thought it was because she wanted to see the fresh water but I tested that theory by letting her see me get her a fresh bowl and putting it next to her food. She wouldn't touch it, so I picked it up and using the same water simply put it on the bathroom counter and she drank from it. No idea what happened or why she changed but I figure that's a small battle compared to her other weird habits:Laugh:

Haji definitely prefers to drink out of the teacup i fill for him that I put on the counter. I've created the monster, because I love it when he sits up there and drinks while he watches me in the kitchen. he will still drink out of his water bowl by his food, thankfully, but much prefers the teacup.

Yeah, lil Ball's always done that. Maybe I'll try what you did kalliee. It's not really a problem just annoying having to fill up 4 or 5 different cups for him. He's got his bathroom cup, his living room cup, his kitchen cup, and his bedroom cup.

:LOL::Hysterical: He's rotten!!

Maybe you could try getting him a water dish made out of a different material. For example, if his dish now is plastic, try getting him a ceramic or metal one? Or he might like an automatic water fountain.

Sometimes I watch a TV show called "Hosecat Housecall" on one episode they had an issue like this. The vet on the show said it can be as simple as the kitty wanting to "find" his own water source, kind of like in the wild. Maybe Butterball feels his wild side coming out when he has all his cups! :LOL:

I think you have created A monster!!!

Ours will drink from their bowl but do like the sink much better, I was just in the kitchen cursing, I was filling the coffee pot for the morning and I use the hose part and the faucet still drips while I do that, Athena jumped up for A drink and I moved it closer to her so she could reach and was just watching how darn cute and happy she looked:Adore: then I got soaked:Angry: the coffee pot over flowed all over the counter, floor and me! I guess that's what I get for not paying attention!:LOL:

:LOL: About 3 times a week I get toothpaste spit all over me because Walter has to jump up into the bathroom sink EVERY SINGLE TIME I'm brushing my teeth and I'm so busy trying not to spit all over his head that I end up spitting down the front of my shirt instead! :Angry: ...ah, the things we put up with because they are so damn cute!

Speaking of getting ready for work. One of the things I LOVE the most is being able to pickup and hold Meecho after I've gotten dressed for work. Poor Midnight would get hair all over me so once I put my work clothes on I would hold him at arms length. With Meecho no worries....unless she's oily:Smile:

I agree with Brooke. Some cats refuse to drink out of things that they can see a reflection in.

More often than not, however, cats have a preference to moving water. Trying a fountain would also be a good idea--as Brooke mentioned. It's also been proven that cats that have a fountain (or running water, like that in a sink) drink more water than cats who do not. For that reason, the risk of kidney disease (and secondary megacolon) is lessened to a certain degree in cats that follow this rule.

mine do the same. their "water bowl" is actually a coffee mug. they've been drinking out of a mug forever

I only get to hold Chadwick, but he can't sit on my lap. He's constantly dirty, even the same day he gets a bath! I wear white pants to work and he will get them so dirty. I got home early last week and fell asleep on the couch in uniform and when I woke up, there was Chadwick sleeping between my legs and my pants had the nastiest dirt marks on them! Luckily, they came right out in the wash, but it was gross! He likes to supervise me when I'm getting ready. He'll put his face near my curling iron/Chi to make sure it's hot enough and he makes sure I put my make-up on properly. When I'm finished, he'll put his paws on my chest and give me kisses as a reward for a job well done!

As for the drinking, he'll drink out of anything. I have to keep the toilet seat down and he waits eagerly for me to get out of the shower so he can lick the water off of my feet until I freak out and then he'll run into the tub!

Where he waits while I'm in the shower
