I have recently rescued two sphynx cats from the shelter and am still getting up to speed with their care. I have been giving weekly baths which at first worked fine, but now the more pink girl is showing signs of overbathing. She is collecting extra oil around her neck and belly but also feeling dry and flakey one day after I have washed her. I’m using ‘Anicura Natural Cat Shampoo for Dry Sensitive Skin’.

I have tried coconut oil, but not sure if I’m doing it right? I’m lathering her up and patting off the excess oil.

Any advice to help get her skin back to normal again? Obviously bathing her is making it worse.

Is there a product I should use to help her skin rejuvenate, or should I give her a few weeks break from bathing?

Thanks!

Welcome to sphynxlair! Do you have pics of your two cuties you want to share?

I would give her skin some rest and not wash her for a few weeks. The more you bath the more oily and dirty they get. You can use baby wipes sensitive for in between baths

Different spa schedules work for different cats. Just like we can't all use the same hair or skin routine, neither can these guys. Monkey gets a bath weekly, but she can go weeks and not get oily or greasy. She still picks up dirt(I always say her skin can pick up more dust than a microfiber cloth), but it comes off with a little coconut oil. I let it sit for a minute, then gently remove with a baby wipe. It sounds like maybe your babies just need a few weeks to balance out

Thanks for the advice. It’s hard to know the balance as she is starting to smell after a week, I I figured she needed washing. I may try a new shampoo too.

I’ve attached a pic of my girls (Pinky and Bluey) and a closeup of Pinky’s dirty neck.

Hello there !
So sorry to hear your little girl is having problems with her skin , I am not expert by any means ! But I would cut right back on her pamper times , let her skin get it’s normal balance back , I’m sure our ladies with awesome sphynx knowledge will jump right in with sound information on how to treat her and with what products
I do hope she is back to her normal self
Sending massive hugs from us
Xxx❤️❤️❤️Xxx
Oh PS , my two get bathed every two to three week .

***Update***

Pinkys skin is now silky smooth. I left her for a few weeks before bathing her again. I have also started using a small amount of olive oil on her dry patches, which works a treat. Thanks Sphynx team. :D

Whoo hoo! Perseverance pays off!
