Hey guys,

So as mentioned I got quasi on Sunday and gif him health checked on Tuesday. I mentioned to the vet his left eye was watery (it’s not anymore) and that I thought I saw a white dot. She Checked and saw nothing but said it fluid he feline HSV. well I can clearly see a dot in the eye. I’m gonna reschedule and appt tomorrow but can anyone give advice on what they think this is??

I’m sort of spiralling.

@Ozzieosbourne , good catch, good job momma for a recheck for peace of mind. sharing, my Yoda man had a spot on his eye. eye specialist said she could test for corona virus but could get false positive or negatives. many cats (80% or more can test positive). you can ask vet about. My vet gave me meds for my Yoda boy and all cleared up , never an issue again.

Qausi is such a sweetie! hugs n head smooches.

Thank you for this information. I sent them an email with the picture and I’ll call them first thing in the morning. His eyes aren’t watery anymore and he is no longer squinting but the spot is still visible; more so actually, that his eyes are open and not watery!

The receptionist called me today and said it looks like an ulcer and he’s gonna need to get a dye test today to confirm. I feel so sad for him :( does anyone have good experiences with resolving an eye ulcer? I went down the rabbit hole online and I’m utterly depressed.

My adoptee Dolly has eye issues. She has seen an ophthalmologist for her eyes. She was thought to have an ulcer. She was diagnosed with feline herpes virus and a cataract. We were prescribed ophthalmic drops twice daily, and an ointment to give twice daily also. Both the drops are filled by a compounding pharmacy and they helped her tremendously.
Hopefully you’ve caught your little ones issues early so that they can be taken care of and not cause future issues. Keep us posted with progress.

Speedy recovery to your baby and hugs!
We didn't have any problems with eyes yet (not to jinx it) but I heard many stories, due to lack of fur sphynx eyes are unprotected. Maybe someone who dealt with this can recommend any eye drops for prophylaxis? I soak a cotton ball in water or black tea to clear eye goo when Osi gets some, but would rather get something better than that.

Yes, I suspect that his “ulcer” is caused by FHV and it’s just a matter of treating it while he heals. I’ve ordered L-Lysine (cat formula) and I’m going to start him on this indefinitely to prevent future flare ups. I’m just sitting here in limbo waiting for the vet to call me back. The receptionist looked at the photos and agrees with my thoughts but it still needs to be verified by his vet.

Does Dolly use the drops every day? Or only when she had a flare up? How old was she?

@Ozzieosbourne , awh,, don't drive your self nuts on googling . I speak from experience with my Yoda man adoptees eye ulcer. I have an older post about his ulcer. took him to the eye specialist . dye test, she was straight forward about testing for corona virus and said could skip the test because could get false positive or negatives .
she gave me drops and meds, applied everyday ,, I gave a treat and praise, he got used to it quickly and did not mind, one of the drops was expensive, but the receptionist told me I could find it cheaper and would approve the rx for me . I did at samsclub plus membership, brought it down from 92 at their office to 35 with samsclub plus members. non plus membership was 60.

cleared up in a couple of months and never an issue again. No surgery needed. you couldnt even tell he had an ulcer in the before and after photos I have in the older thread I will try to find for you. found it:

and the update I posted in the thread:

"Yoda eye update

Last month I took Yoda to the eye specialist because his cormeal sequestrum got worse
His eye had a brown colored coating appearance

The specialist tested his eyes

To my surprise she told me the cormeal sequestrum had healed with the idoxurine Oflaxcin drops

Now he presented with what she said was a secondary inflammation keratosis that can follow a cormeal sequestrum

Yoda has been on Famciclivor 3 x and I-drop Vet Gel eye drops

Wow! Amazing healing in a month! I can barely tell there is anything there anymore!

Very happy I took him to the eye specialist and he is healing great"

when I got my first sphynx I used L-lysine paste. but really didnt see a difference to be honest.

Yodaman did not have L-lysine. just did his eye drops meds I listed in previous post, and he was good to go never again a flareup and he was near 10 yrs old when he got his angel wings, (heart related),

glad you are being proactive to catch it early. great job mum! following for updates.

hugs n head smooches Quasi.. btw, did you decide on the spelling of his name? I want to address him properly, he is soo cute! you got this!

ps did you mention it to the breeder and ask if any of her cats are FHV positive?

I had such an unfortunate experience with this vet, looks like I’m gonna move to another clinic. The clinic I was going to got bought out (my vet retired) and the vets there now are not it!! They wanted to charge me another visit (I have no issue paying for his dye test and meds) because they claim they didn’t see it at his first visit, two days prior... Absurd, because I even showed the receptionist during my first visit (who vouched for me) and the vet said it was HSV and to just use human eye drops. Needless to say I did not pay for the second visit after explaining to them that they were either negligent in not providing him with proper meds during the first visit or negligent for failing to properly diagnose his condition the first time.

However, his dye test didn’t show that it was an ulcer (although she also could not find the black light she needed) but I requested meds anyways. The breeder says she never noticed anything and they FSV is common in catteries and it’s not a vaccine she provides (she ensures no FIV and she screens for HCM). I’m using the drops I was given and just hoping it resolves in a few days. I’ll keep you guys posted!!

I forgot to reply to your comment and is yea just posted an updated reply above. Thank you for sharing your journey with Yoda and his eye. It’s very reassuring to me :D
We have gone with Quasi as the spelling of his name as it’s truer to the definition I was going for lol. ‘Almost but not quite’

@Ozzieosbourne , oh my so sorry for the vet experience. just an fyi, I my vet referred to eye specialist. believe it or not, the total first visit bill was less than I spent on multiple visits to first vet. (around $250 total with the overrpriced 92 drops . the receptionist took my payment and told me she would approve Rx request where I found it cheaper at samsclub pharrmacy with plus membership. almost a 1/3 of the cost.
some breeders contracts void if FLV or FIP vaccines given so check contract .

what drops did you get? all paws crossed healing vibes. hugs n head smooches

I was given Viroptic and Optixcare. I live in Canada so I don’t think we have a sams club here?

@Ozzieosbournee, melt my heart! lol quite the little velcro baby helper!

I am familiar with the optixcare. several members I know in the diabetic dog group use the it , I have not used the viroptic. a search in the top right box with these meds may bring up previous posts on members who used it.
I dont think there is a samsclub in Canada.
some of my friends here in US and canada order from "Canada vet express". I see they carry the optixcare drops and on amazon canada

My apologies for not responding sooner. I am so sorry that you’re having to go through all this with poor Quasi.
I was giving both drops and ointment twice daily. Now I am down to only one drop daily. It keeps the inflammation at bay from my understanding.
So far everything has been good. We have her 3m check up in January. Dolly is 7 and an adoptee. I don’t know who her breeder was but her “brother” whom I adopted with her doesn’t have anything wrong with his eyes. Not sure if from same breeder or different one. He’s 6.
Hopefully with the right medication he will clear up.

I am sorry to hear that your little Quasi has been having eye problems. I hope he soon gets better. Although I have not had experience with these particular problems , I have been reading through the replies to your post and it always amazes me how abundant and helpful the knowledge of members on sphynxlair is and how readily members share it. Sending positive vibes for a quick recovery for your little guy xxx
