Last night my 7 mo old kitten developed redness in her iris, turning her normal blue eye to almost purple. Took her to the vet this morning, and My vet says she needs to have a high content steroid drop (also VERY expensive), and then wants to run a series of expensive tests if that doesn't work. I've never seen anything like this and I want my baby to feel better, but also feel like my vet is only offering expensive guesswork with my cat! Adding picture so everyone can see. Her name is Runa, and she's on Lysine every day and a grain free diet already.

I've never had this problem with any of my kitties, hopefully someone here has some idea what it might be.

As stated above, a eye specialist vet might not be a bad idea or a second opinion of a other vet.
Maybe she bumped her eye or it could be something more serious. But I'm afraid only a vet (or eye specialist vet) can figure this out.
Positive healing vibes send! Good luck and keep us updated if you like. We would love to see her healed and healthy again (y)

@Ashley Conn Welcome , healing head smooches to Adorable Runa

I dealt with a recent eye issue with my boy. I wish I would have went straight to the eye specialist -
Ask your vet for a eye specialist referral , ask your vet to fax records to the specialist -
The whole specialist visit was $345 with meds and problem cured .

His eye meds were going to be expensive but I learned a few things to share -

1. Goodrx.com saved a bunch and vet was fine with calling it in to the cheapest pharmacy
2. Samsclub membership - his eye meds were $90 at specialist
With Sam's club down to $60
Updated to Sam's plus membership and brought it to $30! Specialist office actually happily called it in to Sam's club

3. Walgreens family card - $35 a year and can use it for pets!
Again huge savings on their meds
I check the Sam's , Walgreens and goodrx and kindly ask vet to call in meds -
Yeaterday my dogs pills would have been $40 - got with the Walgreens family pharmacy card for $5

What drops were prescribed ? Diagnosis by your regular vet ?
My boy got Idoxurine , Oflaxacin and vet I drop gel drops and all clears up

Please keep us updated!
Following closely

Welcome to sphynxlair.

Can you maybe make a deal with the vet? You try the eye drops, if they work you pay for it. If they don't work you don't have to pay.

Update, and thanks for all the responses! The steroid eye drops are helping, and we'll be seeing an eye specialist next week. Inflammation and redness has gone down, but not completely. She's doing pretty well, as far as I can tell, but has been sneezing a lot since the redness has been fading, and eating like I'm not feeding her often enough, even though I'm keeping her on appropriate portions. I'll post an official introduction this week, and keep everyone updated on our progress. I didn't know about this site until looking for help, and I'm really glad I found it. My vet is concerned the issue may be a problem connected with her being pure bred and where she came from, and has mentioned several viruses not included in standard testing.

Glad to hear there is some improvement with your baby. Please update us on what the specialist says. Just a heads up, we cannot mention breeders names/cattery names in the public areas of this community. We strive to make it a friendly site that is about the breed and not breeders. Glad you are enjoying the community.
