@Elaina , hugs to you and Gabbi - I am glad you have a baseline to monitor Gabbi - Sorry it was such a stressful long day

There is a saying I truly believe in with life that "you can ruin today worrying about tomorrow"

I really thought about this saying and the Sphynx issues that come up- are we worrying too much ?

IMHO, sometimes I think we stress over our babies more than our own health and bodies.
How many of us get a body scan? Would we every year? I am sure we all have something a little off and we go on just fine.
How many of us get our female yearly girlie tests paps and mammos? Or men/woman a prostrate test?
If you aren't - please do.

These kitties are more sensitive than any breed I have ever shared my life with- I will love them , take care of them-
I show my age :) when I recall the saying and gold jewelry charms that said

"LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH" :)

Looking forward to pics and smiles all about You and Gabbi :) on your journey!

Hi all, I'm really sad. Poor Gabbi is only 6 months and has a series of issues. I actually think she had her cat flu symptoms from when we viewed and brought her home. She only sneezed once upon viewing so I assumed that is was nothing to worry about. I did view her on two occasions and she did seem fine but who knows, I had already fallen in love with her.

Her breathing when she is sedentary is awful, she doesn't sound healthy at all. It's like she doesn't have a clear airway. Third visit to the vets to double check it is viral and not bacterial and they still seem convinced it's viral despite the discharge coming out of her nose and abundance of sneezing.

Then she told me Gabbi had a heart murmur. I got really upset in front of the vet. She's already quite ill and now this too.. :( She listened three times but could still hear it. She's booked in next week to review the antibiotics and anti inflammatories to see if they have helped and mostly to double check to see if the murmur can be heard still. If it can still be heard then she will get heart scans. I'm terrified of her getting HCM.

I can't really even communicate with the breeder as she's Ukrainian and her English isn't great. I just feel like I've bought a really ill cat and she doesn't deserve this, she's truly wonderful, beautiful and loving. In the meantime I will be worried for next week and can only carry on making sure I do all I can to ensure she gets better.

Just thought I would post, you sphynx lovers understand. :(
Have you found out anything else? It sounds like ive been going through the exact same thing minus the heart murmur. I'm searching for anything new to try. My kitty seems to have a fungus problem also. Any input is greatly appreciated!

My Bella has had runny eyes since I got her the first week of December. Then came the sneezing and coughing. First she was on convenia for two weeks and clavamox this past week. I started adding lysene to her food yesterday. Eye drainage is almost non existant but she's still sneezing, but not as bad and very minimal coughing. We see the vet tomorrow for another recheck. My vet's never had a sphynx patient. She doesn't know what specific tests to run, diseases etc. that are breed specific, or how to rid her of this sneezing. Being a new sphynx parent, I don't know much more than she does. Should I be looking for another vet? Should I ask if she's researching the breed? What should I recommend to her for the sneezing? How will I know if she gets herpes? Is there a sphynx parent manual out there? Help!

I wish there was a true text book of questions and issues to refer to ...but the next best thing seems to be here ...The Lair! So glad you have become an active member. We are here for you.

If things seem to be better except for sneezing, next think to look at is litter. Is it dusty and maybe making your baby sneeze?

If vet prescribes an antibiotic, often Clavamox does not seem to work well in the breed. Orbax or Doxycycline seem to be better for many.

Might also discuss with vet now that Ketamine is not something Sphynx should be administered
if and when any surgeries occur like spay/neuter etc.

Let us know how you make out...no question is stupid.

Honestly, I don't think it's the litter I've been using. The main time Bella sneezes is first thing in the morning before we're even out of the bed or before she even uses her box. When she does go in her box, she digs to China, comes out and never sneezes. Originally I was using the litter by Blue Buffalo made of walnut shells. Then I switched to Swheat Scoop which is made of wheat. If you still think it could be the litter, please advise of which type is best.

Probably not litter then. Be sure to share with vet any patterns you notice. I hope your vet visit goes well.

I went through almost the exact same thing and spent a ton of money and different meds for long periods of time to just have the sickness come back as soon as she got off. My kitty is now on week 2 of no problems! Here is what the vet did, you will have to have her call it into a regular pharmacy probably, but that should not be a big deal. She was prescribed Doxycylene (not sure if that is exact spelling) according to her weight, it is a pill, so you have to get it in her mouth and wash it down with water with a syringe and then she also gave her Gentimicin in her nose, this was done twice a day for 6 weeks, it's a lot of keeping yup with it but it worked! I am so happy my poor kitty that has been sick since I got her is now finally better. I hope this works for you!
