Feeling happy tonight. Took Azura in for a blood pressure test as our vet wanted to see if she is responding well to her blood pressure medicine in the first week. Great news...a huge reduction in pressure. The normal systolic pressure in cats is in the 120-130 mmHg range...and vets accept an allowance of up to 160 mmHg systolic due to stress of being at the vet’s office. Azura‘s BP last week was an average of 252mmHg which was extremely high. This evening she averaged 146!!! A huge difference. Our vet consulted with the cardiologist said with those results no reason to start heart meds as the actual high BP could be what caused so many changes in the heart scan. So we will rescan in July and he said let’s see if the lowered BP reverses much of what was seen in the last scan. Feeling hopeful but keeping it real. Also as a side note our vet shared it is very rare for young cats to have high blood pressure (hypertension) it is more common in senior cats.
