Our beautiful sphynx boy Wilson collapsed suddenly in August . We rushed him to the vet who referred to a cardiac specialist and after various tests and scans he was found to have a high degree of ectopic heart beats, although only very slight HCM and no blood clots .. He has been on medication since and has also been going for regular checks and we dared to hope that things were at least stable. Nature isn't always kind though and two days ago he collapsed again, panting and salivating. He was rushed to the specialist and admitted into hospital but no treatments have worked. We made the decision to bring him home as he became reasonably stable but we know our time together is limited . His eight birthday is on October 28th. He is my constant friend, my ray of sunshine.Sphynx seem to get into your heart in a way that is so unique and special .Ha anyone got any advice on how to cope with the pain?

I’m so sorry this brings tears to my eyes because I am so sorry for you and your ray of sunshine. I have found nothing helps to ease the pain except time and tears. Creating a special memorial too. I am very sorry. It’s not fair. Hugs.

Thank you so much for your replies. He is still holding on , he is alert and wrapped in his favourite blankets next to us on the sofa. Eating very little apart from chicken but at least he's drinking. Just trying to cherish every moment now and wishing miracles could happen.

Thank you . I am so sorry to hear that you had to face this heartache too. And for all those who have had to say goodbye especially if your time together was not as long as you had hoped xxx

I can only tell you that your baby knows nothing but your love and that is everything. Every day is precious and never long enough. Once a Sphynx enters your heart/home, your life officially changed forever. Enjoy every second.

I'm sorry to hear that Wilson isn't doing well. I hope he holds on for his eighth birthday. Everyone copes with the pain of losing a beloved family member differently but for me, when I know one of my animal's days are numbered, I spend as much time with them as possible and make sure that I tell them how special they are and how grateful I am to have them in my life. I find that if nothing is left unsaid then it's easier for me to move forward through the grieving process. Send healing vibes to both of you.

Thank you again for your kind support it means so much. We were lucky to have another precious night with him laid beside us in bed with his head on the pillow, as is his custom. He got up with me this morning as usual for breakfast but won't eat his food, although we have tried all the favourites. The only thing he will eat is dried chicken treats or cold cooked chicken and although we would normally limit those things we are just desperate to get him to eat. Although the vets have advised us the prognosis is very poor and had to mention euthanasia , he is alert and although not his usual bouncy self, seems comfortable. The vet was surprised he made it through the night on Friday and remarked that he was really fighting to live. All your words are so true and I will keep them in my heart. Thank you xxx

It's so hard. It does get easier as time goes on, time and tears as others have said. And then one day maybe a year or two down the road you'll realize that instead of crying, you've started to smile when you think about your time together. Maybe you'll hear a song that reminds me of him, and sometimes he will visit you in your dreams. For now just keep telling him what he means to you and how much you love him. He understands. ❤️

Thank you all again for your beautiful words of kind support. We have been blessed with another day and night with Wilson and he seems to be comfortable and taking small amounts of food, still only chicken and he won't eat out of his usual bowls, so we hand feed him but that's fine . Tomorrow is his 8th birthday which a few days ago, based on what our vets advised us , we didn't think we would see so every day is a bonus xxx

I'm so sorry to hear this. My little 7 year old girl died from something similar. It's so hard to reconcile that our love can't fix everything. Love is so powerful it seems like it would be the ultimate superpower. I will cry with you and beside you for your Wilson.

Thank you all again for your kind words and thoughts. Wilson did see his 8th birthday yesterday which was a blessing considering what our vet was saying a few days ago. Today the cardiologist wants to admit him for overnight ECG testing again plus another heart scan as last weekend his heart was much more enlarged than it had been, and also to check for clots. They have changed his medication from sotolol to atenolol and also have put him back on the clot busting drug, clopidogrel, which unfortunately he hates taking .We have tried all sorts of methods to administer this drug and have had to resort to using a kind of pill syringe as he sniffs out the tablet no matter what kind of food we hide it in , crushed or not. But despite all this he seems comfortable and we will just continue to view each day he stays with us with thanks. Sending out love and thanks to everyone for your kind words , your support helps so muchxxxx

Thank you. He is in the hospital at the moment having tests to assess his current condition following last weekends arrhythmia which were refractory to whatever treatments they tried We had an update yesterday evening from the vet who said he appears stable and remarkably his heart had reduced in size , We are hoping to bring him home later today . The vets are pleased with his progress although warned us that the arrhythmia could take hold again at any time which could cause his heart to give up. Thank you again for all the good loving vibes Im sure in some way it has helped. XXX
