I know a few weeks ago I told you all about my friend with the 18 year old golden she had to put to sleep Well she called me on Friday to tell me one of her other goldens seemed to be sick, she was in heat about 1 month ago but now seemed to be again? (She had one litter of puppies about 2 and 1/2 years ago) I had asked her of other symptoms but she said there seemed to be none and she thought that she missed the other dog and was depressed.
She called me later that day and said her belly seemed bigger, I told her it sounded like Pyo (pyometrious) spelling? ) and asked if she was drinking alot of water and not eating? she said that was all fine. Well Saturday morning she called and the dog had A bad smell coming from it and was not eating and drinking alot. I told her to call the vet asap! She did and he took her in. They did A complete spay and removed 6lbs of infection from her Thank goodness she is doing well but the vet said she would not have made it to Sunday.
Breeding animals that do not get breed after going in to heat to many times are at risk for this infection. So happy that this had A happy ending but just thought it was something everyone could look out for.
