Hello everyone! On January 10th Ramona had an accident, she jumped from a bathroom window that’s pretty high. When I found her she was limping, and took her to the vet, she broke her hip. Thankfully our vet told us surgery wasn’t necessary but i was told that total rest and analgesics were absolutely necessary to help Ramona heal. We had to put her on crate rest and she’s confined to it, granted it’s a big one but I still feel like a shitty mom.
The first week and a half were fine, because of the mild pain and discomfort she really didn’t want to even move and I just moved her to helped her get into her litter and she was good in the crate but know that she’s feeling better she’s crying a lot. I talked to my vet and he examined her and concluded she simply doesn’t want to be in the crate anymore. But her little meows and cries are breaking my heart. I do get her out to nap with me but the moment she feels I’m distracted she bolts out the bed so I can’t have her out of her crate a lot. Thankfully our other baby Felicia is a very gentle and calm cat, so we put her inside the crate and they sleep together. But she stills cries a lot, especially at night. Does anyone have experience with having a kitten (she’s 7 months old) confined to a crate? I feel like absolute shit for keeping her there but I can’t go against my vets orders, especially since it’s for her health. I feel like a terrible mom and I’m afraid she’s going to resent me for keeping her in the crate.
We have an appointment every week for 4/5 weeks since her accident for check up’s and new x rays. Last week our vet told us she’s doing so much better and her bone is healing quite well, we still have two more weeks to go but thankfully she’s doing pretty well.

Oh man, that sucks. Accidents happen and you are following your vets orders which are key to healing that hip. I miss sure the meowing pulls on your heart, but she won’t be vindictive when allowed out…if anything she might be even more cuddly craving the attention and able to enjoy it, so try not to worry about that. It’s awesome her buddy is able to go in and sleep with her. When one of ours was a kitten we had to confine for a week due to hurting her paw falling from a cat tree. I know that is a lot less than what you are going through. We would rotate warm blankets from the dryer to the crate in hopes of giving some comfort. We moved the crate to whatever room we were in just so she felt part of the routines in our home. So happy your vey said it is healing well! @Herathesphynx also want to say she is beautiful.

Poor Ramona! Sorry you are both going through this. I agree with @Catzzzmeow , in my experience they don’t hold grudges and she will be very happy eventually. She will be so much better off in the end, try to remember that above all. It’s tough love.
So good she can have her friend in with her at times. Wishing her a speedy recovery ❤️‍

Poor Ramona and poor you! Sending healing vibes to Ramona and positive vibes to you. It's hard for the both of you but Ramona will soon forget it all and will keep loving you. Just sit by her when you can, talk to her, pet her, give warm blankets and she'll be fine. You could see if you can come up with some "brain games". I know there's a book with brain games for dogs that are crated. Maybe you can take a look to see if Ramona likes it too.

And hope members with experience can give tips. We had several members who had to crated their sphynxs due to injury.

Poor Ramona . It must be so hard for you too. Glad to hear the healing process seems to be going in the right direction, Our boy has to sometimes spend nights at the vets due to a health condition and the vet said they play him "cat music" to settle him, which apparently does work for him. I think its on you tube along with videos for cats etc. Not sure if that kind of thing would be helpful for Ramona? xx
