Hello everyone!! I want to thank everyone who commented such lovely words and well wishes! Also thanks for all the tips! Music and videos on YouTube helped soothe her.
I’m very happy to give you guys an update, Ramona is healing very quickly, even our vet was quite surprise at her healing rate. She’s not longer confined all day to her crate, though she still needs to be put in there at night to avoid her from jumping all over the place hahaha. She’s no longer in any pain meds and is walking normally now, her stress has also been managed now that she’s allowed to get out of the crate and be with us in bed like she’s used to, although she gets very mad at the facts that she’s not allowed out of the room, she’s bff with our chihuahua and misses her a lot, Felicia it’s still her number 1 to cuddle with but she’s not the most playful, in facts she’s quite gentle with her and usually scolds Ramona when she starts getting rough.
We’re gonna get some x rays next week to see her fracture improvement, my vet is confident that we will see positive improvement and that she will stop being confined to the crate next week. My poor Ramona really doesn’t handle stress well and hated the change in her old routine but since a week ago her appetite came back strong and she gained back (and a little bit more) the weight she lost in the first week and a half, she’s also pooping better, there’s no longer blood and it’s firmer. I’m very happy with her progress and even happier that she seems to be more comfortable. January was quite the rough month for us but thankfully it’s over!
I want to share with all of you another thing that I’ve been mulling over but I just want to get it out of my chest. My disappointment in my old vet, it may be shitty of me but I’m really dissatisfied in how they handled Ramona’s fracture and genuinely believe they just wanted to get money out of this without any regards to Ramona’s well being. They told me she was indeed fractured and would forcefully need surgery to be able to walk again but that they couldn’t tell me exactly what they would do to her in surgery because they couldn’t be sure the extent of her fracture until they were operating on her. They told me that her other hip was possibly dislocated and would also need to be fixed during surgery but again they would have to “open her up” to know for sure.
When i told my family this everyone was dissatisfied and my grandma suggested I take Ramona with her dogs vet, she’s known them since she was a girl because it’s a whole family of vets that have a animal hospital, she told me to take her just to get a second opinion, that she vouched for them.
I took her to the second vet he looked at the x rays, physically examined her and confidently told me “this is a clean fracture it will heal in 4/5 weeks, all she needs is rest and analgesics to keep her comfortable” he never mentioned any dislocation or need to operate her other hip. He told me that surgery it’s a very traumatic and stressful situation for any living being but he finds that even more so to cats and that they tend to not handle stress very well. That Ramona had a lot of things going for her, especially her age because her bones have not finished growing her healing process would be fast and he wanted to avoid putting more stress on her (she had stopped eating and was having blood in her poop.) because it would just complicate her recovery.
He was perplexed that they wanted to take Ramona to surgery so quickly without giving her a chance to heal by herself and without even telling me what they were going to do to her. He said “never allow any veterinarian to operate without giving you a full plan on what they’re about to do.” He explained to me how he would operate Ramona if he believed it was necessary or in case her fracture didn’t heal properly.
I’m sharing this in case someone ever finds themselves in a similar situation, it doesn’t hurt to get a second opinion, especially if something doesn’t feel right. I believe that sometimes because of the “rare” breed sphynx are there are some vets that just want to get money out of the owners. I want to be very clear that I’m not criticizing every vet, just sharing my experience.
To end on a happier note I’m gonna share some pics of baby Ramona again thanks to everyone for all your kind and lovely words!
