Hi all!
So my little one (just over 3 months old, arrived here a week ago) has taken well to his raw diet. He's on Primal brand frozen food and seems to be enjoying it a lot so far. I'm definitely confused with how much to give him... it seems this little one gets hungrier and hungrier each day! I'm amazed how much one little kitten can eat. The Sphynx metabolism in action.
My question is: what's the best way to supplement with kibble? I tried leaving it out for grazing for a few days (Orijen kitten kibble, I want to use it because it has taurine and other nutrients, is good for his teeth, etc.), but his no. 2's aren't always as they should be (not horrific or anything, just not as solid as I'd hope). I read here on the forum that if supplementing a raw diet with kibble, you should leave 3 hours before/after the raw food. That's my suspicion for what's going on with him.
Do you think this sounds good:
Morning: raw diet
Lunch: small amount of kibble, discard any well before dinner if not finished
Dinner: raw diet
I'm sure in time I'll get a better sense of how much he wants to eat of the raw haha. But do you think this sort of schedule makes sense? I am going to test it today and see how it goes. How do others on a raw diet structure their baby's feeding? Should I give the kibble grazing another go, and will his digestion normalize in time? Do I remove the kibble altogether? (Not a fan of this option given I know cats with terrible teeth who are on a raw-only diet and had to go under to have extractions etc.)
Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences!
