Raw vs dry?

My girls have been eating Merrick both dry and wet food for the past year and a half. Aside from horrible smelling poop, there have been no issues. They both love it. However, I'm having trouble finding the food now. I think there may be distributor issues? I've been considering raw or perhaps a new brand of food.

Any suggestions on how to start raw? I'm worried about the cost and time involved. My boyfriend is also a vegetarian so I worry about him being able to make it.

I couldn't find the right thread that probably already talks about these issues.

Thoughts?

@Spoon&Sphynx , I autoship wet and dry cat food for my 4 nakeds and a bengal- from Lifesabundance.com
We order dog food too so all of it shipped is 8.85 -
All solid poos on all the zoo :)
*No skin issues and only need to bath my nakeds every month or so with warm water wipe downs in between
Cheaper than at the vets or pet boutiques
$38 for 16.5 lbs.
$22 for 24 - 3 oz cans

Just looked and they have a 6.6 lb bag for $16.54

Been using their product on auto ship for several years and can easily update or change with a phone call or online
They answer the phone right away and will kindly answer any questions-
Their formulating vet even called me at home
Very good customer service

I was looking to buy some merrick cans to add to their variety but saw some older photos of mold in their cans and our local store doesn't carry it because merrick wants them to pay to carry it in their store supposedly- not sure what is going on with them- petco shelves were empty of alot of merrick too -I think you can still order merrick at petco.com

So will just be ordering extra cans of Lifes abundance :)Canned is grain free

Was going to feed raw too but don't want to upset the apple cart if things are pooing fine :)
And skin is great on all the zoo! Gleaming black coats on the dogs too!

If you are interested in starting raw, there are two easy options:

#1 pre made raw
Freeze dried or frozen, check out the brands primal, stella & chewy's, natures variety instict raw

#2 making your own with BiTR (cheaper if you are on a budget)
Buy better in the raw powder from KnowBetterPetFood and mix with water and ground meat

In my experience, raw rarely makes things worse but it is an investment in terms of time and cost which you have to keep up. Also, sometimes it can be hard to get all cats on board. some are picky and finicky and you need to tempt them into eating it at first.

Benefits for me... always firm poop with NO smell which makes it 100% worth it for me.

Check out the Sphynx Cats and Raw Diet subforum for a lot of information and peoples experiences transitioning.

I am a vegetarian and i make raw for my kitty. I was born vegetarian and have been my whole life. When i got my sphynxie i accepted i Was bringing an almost exclusively carnivore into my home. Its gross to make raw, but i love my Cleopatra and would do almost anything for her. The nutrition plus less stinky poop, well worth it.
