Hi my names Jenni :) I have a girl that just turned 4 and was diagnosed with IBD. It took us over a month to figure out what was wrong. Thinking it could have been a million things including cancer. I went to a regular vet almost daily where tonnnns of blood work was done, another vet for an ultrasound where nothing was found, and finally I went to a specialist in another state where we had another ultrasound, endoscopy, and biopsy where we finally figured out what was going on. She is normally about 4.15 and was down to less than 3.8 # which was sooo scary. She's back on the road to recovery now and not just skin and bones. (I do not miss force feeding 50x a day food and water) She's also allergic to just about everything so we are a scent free hypoallergenic household lol I am not in the process of switching her off her previous food (natural balance limited ingredients green pea/duck) and getting her on a single source protien (rabbit) while she's been sick she's been eating Science Diet A/D. Supplemented with rabbit I've been cooking as well as rabbit liver and heart and chicken gizzards, liver, and heart. She's on prednisone daily and hopefully soon will be able to go to every other day. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask! This has been quite a journey and without the Sphynx family over on Instagram I would have gone crazy!!!

I'm glad you found this site. It's been an amazing place for support and friendship, not only for my sphynx, but my furry girls, too. (y)

@JenniSaysMeow I follow you on IG (life_of_greg_and_larry), but maybe not when this was going on. We might be dealing with some IBS issues with our Larry. In and out of the vets, x rays, blood work, everything comes back normal but he has persistent diarrhea (every few days) and occasional vomiting. He has been gaining weight which is great, and the vet thinks it could be allergy related.

Our other sphynx, Greg, has allergies to some things which result in skin issues. Sigh. It's like we get one sorted and the other has an issue!

Guess I'm just curious what you're feeding Skrillex these days, and if things have stayed ok since you posted. Still doing rabbit? Has it resolved all the issues? Supplementing with can food? Brands?

We're still in the trial and error and crazy vet visit stages, but they've ruled out the big issues.

Any advice?

It is a struggle to get a diagnosis of IBD, it took months to figure out what was going on with Elfie. I'm happy to report that the turn around once we knew what the issue was happened very quickly so Skrillex should be back to 100% very soon!

She's very lucky to have such a dedicated mom who wasn't going to rest until she had the answer she needed!!

WELCOME

Hi!!! I love your Igram account :) I started following you because I had to continue to watch the adventures of little Larry David :)
I read that a lot of people that have IBD cats seem to have the diarrhea, but I was lucky to never have that. If anything, her BM's are harder than they should be.

Skril still isn't 100%. If she gets picked up the wrong way or gets too hot she gets lip smacky and vomity. If she eats any dry food or treats, boom - vomity. It sucks. Bad. I now have her on a diet of raw rabbit. It's taken a few brands, but she LOVES Primal rabbit formula for cats. It comes in a 3# bag. You take a few pieces out 6 hours prior and it's good to go. They also make it in a small nugget that's also frozen, but doesn't need defrost time. My back up is also 100% frozen raw rabbit by Stella & Chewy. She likes the nugget and Stella, but she goes wild for the larger ones. I've been extremely happy with her skin on those too. She's pretty much allergic to everything and has a reaction.

Back up for all those if she's having a bad bad time is Hills prescription diet a/d to get her insides calmed and I also have canned Royal canin prescription selected protien. And it rabbit! :) she started getting sick on the hills z/d (both those diets are hypoallergenic and the a/d is a recovery diet)

Feel free to pm me on Igram and I can send you copies of some of her bloodwork/biopsy if you want to compare it to some of your results. Or just if you have any other questions!!! Happy New Years :)

@JenniSaysMeow Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply! I'll take you up on your offer of comparing blood work soon, and PM soon. Right now...things are crazy. I work at a liquor store and it's new year's eve....AHHH! Anyway...his appointment is Monday so hopefully I'll have a little more info then.

I have heard that some sphynxs tend to have problems digesting gluten and need a grain free diet (or Raw) to help with any IBS-D symptoms they may have one lady I know swears by a raw diet she orders from some company in Florida for her cats with IBS-D problems
