Hello! I have a 1 year old sphynx named Cairo. Over the last week he has developed these raised red bumps almost all over his body. They don’t seem to hurt him or bother him at all really. We haven’t made any changes to his food, body wash, kitty litter, or laundry soap.. we honestly do not know what is causing this outbreak.. he doesn’t go outside, we have no other pets.. A week ago he had to have his anal glands expressed by the vet. I found one bump on his neck prior to having this done and I forgot to mention it to her at the time.. he also received a steroid and antibiotic shot at that visit...any insight would be helpful! I will have pics attached.

Why did he receive a steroid and antibiotic injection?

Have you done anything different with food? What does he eat?

He was leaking clear mucus from his rectum. Took him to see his vet who had to expresss his anal glands and said she saw pus. And that he needed to have an antibiotic and steroid shot. No change in his diet, we give him blue wilderness indoor cat food...

Do you feed him the same food every time or do you switch up the protein? Sometimes they can become allergic to a certain protein or grain if they are eating only it for a long time.

I have a feeling though that his bumps may be related to his infected anal glands. An immune response.

We do feed him the same food every time. What do you recommend that we add or use to switch it up?

That makes total sense, because his first bump appeared when he was having his leakage from his rectum. We did just come back from the vet and she diagnosed him with hives/dermatitis. I told her we have not made any changes for him. She said maybe it could’ve been a mosquito? She gave him a steroid injection and said if it doesn’t get better it gets worse within the week to bring him back. She said she does not want to give any antibiotics just yet. I’m hoping this is not a sign that he has any type of immunodeficiency.

But I thought she gave an antibiotic shot?

You can try switching up his protein and grain. Like if you feed chicken and rice now, go find lamb and potato. (Or just something different)

last week he received the initial steroids and antibiotic shot due to his anal glands having to be expressed. Yesterday I took him back to the vet to have his bumps evaluated. She then gave him the second steroid shot. So we will see if this works.. he is still a bumpy boy.. I will look into the diet changes thank you.
