Hey everyone I’m new to the site but I’ve been reading everyone’s helpful posts and I’m stressing out so please help me!! My poor baby Dinah has these red spots or a rash of some kind on her neck and behind her front legs I have no idea what it is from!! My breeder says acne? Or heat rash but I live in a basement suit and it’s quite cool so I don’t think it’s that? She’s 8 months old and I’ve never had issues like this before!! Just looking for advice.. I haven’t brought her to the vet yet but it’s getting worse so I will ASAP if that’s what is needed. Thanks!! ❤️❤️❤️

@Audrey Quade Welcoming you amd Gorgeous Dinah to the lair family

Agree with any changes ?

(Thinking outside the box - have you seen any fleas ? We have had some members kitties experience flea bite allergy - just takes one if they have sensitivities

does she wear clothing ? They can get heat rashes from clothing ?

Surely others will chime in

Always best for peace of mind to vet check and get any meds if necessary on board especially if you see it is getting worse

Will be following closely for updates

Thank you everyone for all the replies and advice! So to answer a some questions:
A few things have been new and I can’t remeber for the life of me in what order these things have happened but I almost feel like the rash showed up with the litter change and has gotten worse so I feel like it is the issue but why hasn’t it gone away?! But to thorough I’ll list some things it could be:
-Yes I got different litter as Costco was out of our usual kind (green tub from Costco) we only used the new stuff for a week maybe? I have since switched her back and I washed her box out and gave her a bath aswell and that didn’t help :(
- I haven’t switched soap but I did bath her (I was told by my breeder to use baby shampoo) and we have never had an issue in the past. I bathed her because of the rash I thought maybe they were bites from little noseum flies (little tiny black flies) or something on a walk maybe she had gotten?
- I also washed all of her bedding and cleaned my floors but I have also done all of that in the past of course and haven’t switched anything.
- She sometimes wears a harness while we go outside for small walks as she’s quite nervous outside still but we just went like in the grass and up a gravel trail beside my house that I have been taking her to for months.
- No new foods at all I feed her Acana Pacifica (the fish one in the blue bag) and I give her First Mate wet food (she likes all the flavours)
- The red bumps are now scabs so I feel like they look worse but maybe they are healing but also I’ve caught her now she’s trying and has been scratching the ones on her neck for sure. My breeder says it’s probably acne or heat rash? Anyways I know that’s a lot but I appreciate the feed back!! I have attached some photos from today.

If it is neck and under arms, is that where the harness touches? Mine get bumps like that sometimes (almost like a pimple) that completely heal within 4-5 days. Just keep an eye on it. Unless it gets way worse or never heals, I would skip the vet for now. They will probably just say its an allergy or sensitivity, but won't be able to tell you what is causing it. Lots of topical stuff can't be used because they will lick it off, but Vetericyn spray and products are good and safe.

Yes actually it would be where it rubs but I didn’t wash it oddly enough so it wouldn’t be from detergent I guess? Maybe it is just heat rash or just like chaffing? She can’t sctratch where it touches like behind her front legs/arm pit area so it doesn’t look as bad there but her neck is worse or more scabby because shes scratching it. What is this spray you are talking about? And where do I get it?! Thank you for the advice!!

How is Dinah today?
I just posted some photos of her today I feel like it looks the same. It got worse over the past week or so but now hasn’t progressed past that. Should I bathe her again if maybe when I washed her bedding I used too much soap? I rewashed her stuff with no soap just ran through the cycle so I’m hoping that helps? Any suggestions welcome!!

Do you use fabric softener sheets or I used too much detergent when cleaning blankets and they did not get fully rinsed and my one boy back then broke out.

@Toa and Ross , do these rashes look like Toa's?

@Audrey Quade , you mention it is spreading :(
a vet check would be a good idea for peace of mind

Don't panic - so many of us have dealt with skin issues -
It seems like it's either poo issues or skin issues as you can see by the thread topics .

Positive vibes and head smooches to Dinah
Please keep us updated often

Ps -thinking outside the box here -
how long has she been on Acana Pacifica ? Maybe allergic to fish?
(My dog had allergies to it )
So I fed my kitties the Acana grasslands instead..
but they got very greasy skin quickly.
now I feed Nutrisource cat and kitten food - no skin issues or poo issues

I have been giving the wet and dry food with the fish in it ever since I got her! No issues with her stool at all either. That’s about 6 almost 7 months now I’ve been giving it to her. I have made an appointment to take her to the vet for Monday.

I did wash her bedding but it was after the rash and then I ran them through again with no soap to rinse them even better to make sure but the soap wasn’t new either

Hi, yesterday I was at the vet again about spots that are similar to ur kitty, she’s had them for a while now as the Medicated shampoo wasnt working! The vets plan is to treat Binky for fleas, for a few weeks the thought is making me itch, if no difference in a few weeks, then food change n allergy checks then after that skin expert! Vet said it may not be fleas but dust mites or midges there like Scottish mosquitoes as the weather has been really hot here! I hope ur kitties spots go away, let us know what clears them up!

Ii try n get a pic to show u, they r on the neck, face n beside her front legs!

Alright everyone I don’t have a clue what happened but yesterday and the day before I was stressing so hard about her skin I made a vet appt for Monday but this morning I woke up and one area behind her front leg looks maybe worsened and new area has come up on her back leg but her other front leg and her neck are looking better? They all seem to be in areas where her wrinkles and creases are and she has been licking her one armpit area quite a bit( the more red photo) I haven’t done anything besides not brining her outside, I changed her litter back to the old kind and I rewashed her bedding in just water no soap. If this is just heat rash what els should I do to help her out? Or would it make sense that it’s like improving in some areas while others are starting?

Glad you got a vet appointment for peace of mind

Many of us keep on hand Vetericyn plus spray
I actually found vetericyn VF formula spray and hydro gel on line
I like Vetericyn because its non toxic amd works well

Be sure not to over bath either bcz toy want the skin to do its normal health thing too
It's such a fine balance to find what works best for individual kitties

Do you know if the litter has changed ingredients?
Many of us are now using unscented clumping litter .
Dr elseys unscented is popular .
I recently found a dupe at a better price - it's from Canada-
"Fresh for life odor destroyer " it's unscented and clips and scoops easily
Just wanted to share brainstorming -
some scented litters, wheat litters , corn based litters can cause irritation . Allergies can develop at anytime to products

Sending a lair full of positve vibes ! Amd hugs to you

Yeah I use the above as sometimes binkys spots weep! Yeah hers pop up, then disappear n come somewhere else! The vet mentioned diet, like she may need more carbs so I Hav mixed her applaws with purina to see if there’s an improvement! At this stage am willing to try anything! I steam cleaned n sprayed everywhere with flea cleaner haha...! I feel myself screaming n itching as I write that haha!

So this is what her worst area (right front leg arm pit) looks like today. As I said her neck and left leg are better I think? Lol Aswell this morning I emailed the litter company I have been using and inquired about possible changes in the litter as it does say it has “new odour fighting crystals”. I don’t know what that means or is so could that be it? I also included photos of the litter. I just can’t remeber if my previous tubs of it has this same advertisement on it but I’ve been using this same little for over 6 months.

Hi Audrey, how’s u n little Dinah? Binkys spots have improved a bit on her face, but her two front armpits have got worse, there very red n angry looking! Vet mentioned trying venison n pea science plan food for a few weeks n if no change, referral to a skin specialist, which is really expensive! I have ordered oatmeal shampoo after reading lots of info on here to help sooth the skin! Hope Dinah's has improved, sending love from Scotland xxx

Sorry for the late reply I was just waiting to see if the medication my vet put Dinah on worked and it did! They put her on Prednisolone and it started to work in like three days and she was only supposed to take for 5 days but I could still see some faint spots so I continued to give the meds. I will call tomorrow and see what they recommend. She has feline herpes aswell so her eye has been irritated since the meds but they warned me of that happening and so I have also been giving her Tobradex eye drops that seem to help that issue as well as my lysine chews I give daily. I’m assuming she is slower to heal or react to the meds because of the feline herpes but that’s a whole other issue...Anyways! They said it looked like bug bites or some kind of contact dermitis that got really irritated because of her licking and scratching. So I still have changed nothing and stopped bringing her outside. I feel really bad because she likes it outside so I need new ideas to exercise her and keep her happy and entertained. Any feed back?!

That’s good the medicine worked for the spots! Aww that’s a shame Dinah’s got Feline herpes. Binky still has spots n her armpits are still quite red looking, gave her a bath with oatmeal shampoo seemed to ease the itch for her! Same the vet thinks it’s a reaction to food, contact dermatitis or bug bites!

Some ideas for exercising in the house is a get a laser they will chase that thing for ages! I have they connecting tunnels that’s Binky continues to dives in n out of! I play hide n seek also or run from one room to another with a shoe lace or feather dangler n they will chase u!
Send my love to little Dinah xxxx
