I don't know how to put in words how much Almond meant to me.
Three days ago he had a second stroke. He recovered so powerfully from the first one in July so this caught me by surprise. Two days ago he left us at 10 years old.
Almond was spectacular. I trained him to use the bathroom, and he was so smart that whenever we'd move or visit someone I just showed him the toilet and flushed it, and he knew right away where to go.
He ate at the table with us. Always stole chicken off our plates. That always made us laugh, and of course we would let him have it. He slept in bed with us. Always clawed his way into my shirt, and slept on my chest.
We had the best birthday parties for him with sardines and bonito flakes, his favorites.
There was a rule in my house whenever friends visited, that if you pick up Almond and he meows more than once, you put him down or will be asked to Ieave. I enforced it this rule a couple of times. His comfort and convenience came before anything.
He helped me through very difficult times, and celebrated many beautiful moments with me. The last couple of months he was snuggling with my wife, and seemed to know that she was pregnant which was so heartwarming.
He gave our Aussie purpose and we joke saying that Almond was his emotional support animal.
His purring was my sound bath, his scent was my aromatherapy and his warmth was my calm.
We buried him in the yard of a new home we are renovating, so he will always be there with us.
Almond was truly everything to me. He will be missed incomprehensibly.
Thank you to everyone here at the Lair that has supported his journey. You are so important to us.
I just wanted to share some memories because I know you all would get it.
