Hi, I am a brand new Sphynx owner and I am honestly a nervous wreck. I am so in love with my new baby boy, and I want to make sure he is as happy and healthy as he can be. I've only had him for 2 days now, and tomorrow is his vet appointment. When I picked him up Sunday evening the breeder said he had just started sneezing and thought it might be a cold due to the weather. Well it's not going away, he seems to he sneezing more and more and his eyes and nose are both pretty runny. Also his breathing is loud, like he is breathing through a stuffed up nose. He is acting fine though, running around playing, purring, eating etc. I am glad he goes to the vet tomorrow but thought I'd ask here too to maybe calm my nerves-is this something anyone has experienced before? Is there any precautions I can take between now and his appointment that will keep his symptoms from getting worse? Let me know, thanks!

It's pretty common for kittens to get upper respiratory infections (colds, basically) - especially when they come to a new home. Tell your vet about his symptoms and they will prescribe meds that will help a lot. It's not too big a deal, most people here have experienced it :) congrats on your new baby and welcome to the lair!!

Oh and for tonight - run the shower really hot and take him into the bathroom when it gets steamy. Don't put him in the water, just cuddle with him in the steamy bathroom. That will help his congestion. Humidifiers help too.

Oh okay, that's a really good idea. Thank you! I am so thrilled to have him.

Welcome and congrats on your baby love! Steamy bathroom and wiping his nose with a nice warm cloth should be fine until you get to the vet tomorrow. We all worry so much about our sphynxies. Let us know how he does at the doctor.

Okay good. Awe thank you! He is truly the most amazing little guy I've ever met-I understand now why Sphynx owners are so crazy about their babies! And okay, I will definitely post update. Thanks!

Hi, we are back from the vet. Doctor said it's an upper respiratory infection, gave him antibiotics along with some ointment for the scabs his snot is leaving on his nose. So hopefully all will clear up very soon, his vet said that other than that, he is in perfect health! So glad to hear that. Thank you all for your help.

Glad he is on the mend, it's pretty common and i just went thru this with my "pinky" boy. I plan on keeping antibotic on hand for these times...but also give him L-lysine 2x a day in his wet food makes a huge difference in his immunities. I had stop giving mine and I wont do that again.
