Sad news, guys. If you reference my thread in the Questions section of the forum you'll see that my plan of adopting two babies was SUPPOSED to happen... anyways, i spoke with my landlord again about you know, how much the deposits are going to be to add them to the lease, and apparently he changed his mind about the amount of pets in the house. So, now, i can't get both cats, and had to choose between them. SO HARD!! I ended up choosing the black tortie because of the way the breeder described her personality. anyways, does this not suck so bad?? It's not gonna keep me from getting another kitten from this breeder in the future when my living situation changes, but you know.. this sucks.

AWE! Darn it! Silly landlord, what's the difference between one cat or two??

That's a BIG bummer, but I'm still glad you're getting one.

Just a thought, but if you have a signed lease with the pet policy on it, is it written that he's allowed to just change his mind like that?

That Sucks.
When I lived in a apartment we made a deal with the mgr to have 4 cats.
I always said when we got our house I would get my sphynx and that is what I did.
How much more where they trying to charge you.

as someone who has a job in property management, i can tell you i read the lease well before I signed it. the section about the pet policy just stated that before a pet is to occupy the household, a pet addendum needs to be signed, and the pet deposit needs to be payed in full. so, basically, he can change his mind about that because the contract doesnt say anything about quantity of pets, just what has to be done in case he agrees to let pets live in the house.

so basically, he can be as big of a jerk as he wants about it.

Hmm. Jerk.

I wonder if he'd be willing to negotiate if he thought his new policy meant you wouldn't be renewing your lease at the end of the term... (sorry, I like to play hardball sometimes!)

I thought of that... but houses like this lease themselves. big lawn, central heat and air, hardwood floors, lots of storage, 4 downstairs bedrooms, huge kitchen, and an upstairs apartment with a separate entrance included in the price.. AND its less than two blocks from the OU campus. so... he wouldnt have a hard time even if i chose not to renew. i'd be the one stuck in the pickle if i chose not to renew...

hes just a jerk. hes the kind of landlord you have to ask 10 times to get the smallest stuff done. the house wasnt even clean when i moved in. gross.

See? It's PLENTY big enough for two cats!! But, yeah, don't wanna risk it, sounds like a great place. Oh well, sphynx #1 will break you in and you'll be a seasoned pro when it's time to get another kitten. Heck, maybe you'll even get two more down the road!

yeah, no kidding! this house is like 2500 sq feet. but I guess theres always a silver lining. like you said, sphynx #1 will break me in for sphynx #'s 2 & 3 and so on, plus, when i'm starting out, things like food and vet visits will be only half as expensive because there will be half as many animals in the house. And, now that I think about it, this will be a good opportunity to get into a cat routine. you know, getting into solid habits and routines with bathing, ear cleaning, nail clipping, and stuff like that. it will be easier with one. but this still makes me sad, I have enough love for at least a few more cats than i'm allowed to have.

You can think of this in a good light too. It is difficult owning your first sphynx because as prepared for it as you are when they get there you find your really not prepared at all  Plus you can get so engrossed in taking care of them that one day you wake up and your baby isn't such a baby anymore. Now you can get a second sphynx and you'll be more prepared for it and you'll be able to really watch and cherish them as babies, and when that one get's bigger you get another new baby and so forth and so on. That way when you take their picture they can line up and you'll have the full spectrum of ages in front of you

You know when he meets her he may fall in love and will let you get a new one really quickly and even want one for himself!
