Hey tribe,
My poor baby has some horrible skin problems. She gets an awful rash under her tummy, groin and pit areas. I have tried diet and litter. We have an air filter and water filter. I can’t seem to get rid of it. The only time she is rash free is when she is on steroid tablets but she’s having them too often. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Did your vet do a skin scrape to get tested yet?

Yes they did ages ago when she first presented. It’s not ring worm or an infection. They told me food allergies and she’s been on royal Canin hypoallergenic biscuits for around 4-5 months but it doesn’t make a difference. The only time her skin is good is if she is on steroid tablets. The steroid needle doesn’t even work.

Have they ruled out urticaria pigmentosa?

Have you tried a raw diet?

Yes she’s been raw fed since we got her from the breeder. I first did a raw elimination diet and removed chicken, then beef but then ended up trying the hypoallergenic kibble because it’s still there. The kibble hasn’t helped. The steroid tablets gets rid of it, but then she will have another flair up and I’m not sure why she’s getting it.

Oh I see...the each raw meat type was also tried for 4-5 mo? Doctor called it a “rash” specifically?
Any plans of getting allergy testing done with a specialist?

I’m seriously wondering if it isn’t Urticaria Pigmentosa. @Toa and Ross has a baby with it and he stays on a low dose steroid daily to combat it.

No she wasn’t on the meat types for 4-5 months. I got told 6 weeks. She’s now on single protein duck or lamb. I live in a regional area of Australia and there isn’t a good dermatologist near me.

Have you tried to feed raw kangaroo at all? My vet had me feed only kangaroo for 3 months for allergy elimination as most pets don't have allergies to kangaroo.

It looks indeed like UP. Specially since the steroids make the rash go away. You can ask the vet to take biopsies from the rash infected skin

Thank you, I did try roo but one of my other cats three it up and it’s very hard to separate them for meals. Sadly that kitty has since passed away so I will try roo only for three months. Thank you. X
