Hi so I bought my first Sphinx baby on Saturday and he has been a little sneezy. The breeder told me he just needs time to adjust. Which I expected.
So its Thursday now and his nose is really scabby, his one eye is a little swollen and red, and tearing a lot. He is acting completely normal besides he sleeps a LOT for a kitten. I sent the breeder pictures and she said to keep waiting.... So I have been doing the warm cloth and wiping gently but sometimes he wheezes and coughs like he's all stuffed up... Im beginning to think about taking him to the vet, but as we all know, can be expensive. I'm just reaching out asking for some advice?

Thanks in advance.

@aballoun Don't wait. Get to a vet. It sounds like a upper respiratory infection. These guys are known to get them after stressing and going to their forever home. Due to the eye being swollen I would get to your vet as things can go downhill fast. They will prescribe an antibiotic and hopefully things will clear up fast. If your vet is not familiar with the breed, you might mention the antibiotic Clavamox is known to be not the most effective for this breed. Orbax has a better record and if things are severe, Doxycycline is great. Also you can start them on L-lysine L-Lysine for Sphynx Cats

But please do not wait. A swollen eye means an infection...get to your vet.

@aballoun, welcome to you and your kitty! What is his name?
I strongly agree with a vet visit asap -
Not uncommon for sphynx to get kitty colds , upper respiratory infections, when first brought home-

*You don't want to let it go untreated - Or get dehydrated which can be life threatening if not treated
better to get a vet wellness check and some antibiotics
At more reasonable cost to clear things up right away then if you wait and it worsens which would be a higher vet bill and a potential serious problem for kitty - cats are known to crash quickly so better to get him treated sooner than later

Ask your vet too if pet antibiotics are free in Canada too like the US
if called into a people's pharmacy or food store pharmacy -?

They will even formulate into a liquid suspension for free in the US for the asking
At local pharmacies like Publix pharmacy and include a free plunger dispenser .
(my vets office charges $27 US dollars antibiotics in liquid form
Or $19 for pills -)

Kitty infections can also go to the heart -

Many of us have had kitties with Upper respiratory infections that cleared up with one vet visit.

Please keep us updated
We welcome you amd your kitty amd look forward to your journey with us!

Hi and Welcome! I agree with everyone, take him to the vet. If you catch it early it will be easier to treat

Wow such unexpected support!!
He went to the vet today. If it hadn't been for your advice my husband wouldn't have been convinced it was that bad. He has an upper respiratory infection and is on antibiotics :) He is grumpy though....

His name is Spoglio which is italian for naked. Ironic I know. :)
