Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this on their Sphynx before. It started 3 days ago as just a few red hives that seemed to rapidly spread and is still spreading. However the hives aren’t very raised anymore and it mostly feels very dry and flakey. Henry doesn’t seem to be bothered by it but I’ve noticed it’s literally spread all over his body minus his neck and face.

The only thing that’s ever been different is my moms been visiting the last month with her two cats who eat a different food (they all eat Henry’s regular Orijen food now as of 3 days ago) but I feel like this would have happened weeks ago if it was an issue. And then last week he was eating a few flavours of a new canned wet food. Could a food allergy rapidly spread over days and last this long even after all possible allergins we’re put to a hault? I also washed all the bedding in usual dye and fragrance free soap. Ill be taking him to the vet tomorrow but I know they will want to sedate him for a biopsy which I want to avoid sedating him. Was hoping someone has seen this before and might have an idea what it could be. And also does it at all look like urticaria pigmentosa?

Thanks everyone!

It does appear to be a food allergy. Did he eat the others cats food? I would use what ever food he ws eating before all this happened and go from there. :)

Looks like a food allergy or an allergy for plants. Did Henri ate something he shouldn't? Or did you change his food? New plants in house?

It does look like an allergy. Hopefully it can maybe clean up with some oral treatment or a steroid shot

Yes he was eating my moms cat food on and off the last month and then as soon as the hives came I made sure everyone switched to Henry’s food. I just thought it was strange that it would pop up suddenly after a month of nipping here and there on their food. Unless it was one of the wet cans he tried last week. He does have some food allergies I’ve identified in the past but I’ve never seen anything this bad. He’s also sneezing and sleeping a fair amount so I’m hoping a steroid shot will fix him up

He got into some food yes but no plants! I can’t trust him around plants and since lots are toxic I just avoid it all together. He’s one of those cats that will eat anything haha

So I took him to the vet and a steroid cream fixed him up real good after two days! No more hives just a little dry skin. It was determined a food allergy. Except the sneezing has gotten very excessive. 5-6 in a row all day long. He carries that upper respiratory virus and whenever he gets stressed out it tends to come out which isn’t very often but the vet wants me to try reactine instead first incase it was part of the allergy. Even though I’m not too convinced. Are Sphynx’s typically ok with taking reactine? Or certirizine is another name for it

Thank you for the update! Glad the cream worked great on his skin

Did the vet have you change food?

My Toby gets seasonal allergies and takes Chlortabs per my vet
Which is similar amd does help the sneezing
He only had to take it for about a week and all cleared up

(@demyan , my other kitty was prescribed famciclivor amd vet I drop gel
He took for about a month ) he too may have the same flare ups
He is all good now with no further medication

Healing vibes keep us updated
Head smooches!
