Hi everyone!

This is my first post, thanks a lot for being such an amazing community.

This is my baby Ele, he is 4 years old, we live in Barcelona, Spain.
I'm posting here after loads of visits to the vet without a proper solution... I hope someone here can help.

I brought Ele to the vet a year ago because he constantly scratched his skin until it bled. We found out he is allergic to the food we were giving him, so we changed his food to Anallergenic by Royal Canin and the Z/D by Hill's. His body / skin looks better but he keeps scratching his face, not as much as before but keeps doing it.
He has black marks in his face, back ear and arms. He didn't have these marks a couple years ago and I feel it's getting worse... I don't know if it just scars or a skin condition and I don't know what's best to treat him. Also I just noticed he keeps losing weight and I don't know if that is connected or has nothing to do with this.

Let me show you how he looks now with these pictures attached.

You can see how he looked back ago in his insta www.instagram.com/ele_thecat

Do you know what can I do? Just want to help him to feel better...
I bathe him every two/three weeks and recently changed to this shampoo Frontline Pet Care to see if it's better but don't know yet.

BTW If anyone knows any Sphynx cat specialists in Spain that would be amazing to know as I feel they tend not to know about the specifics of this amazing breed.

Thanks a lot again!

@ele
welcome to the lair family. Ele is adorable! he has the best of love and care, all paws crossed for the vet visit. some vets will do a skin scraping to rule out yeast or bacteria. mention his weight loss to and ask if a cbc blood test would be beneficial?
did vet recommend a certain shampoo? hugs n head smooches, following closely for updates

Just a thought. He may need to switch to a different hypoallergenic food. He may be losing weight and scratching still because it’s not the right one for him.

No, the vet didn't recommend any shampoo but I'll definitely ask them tomorrow. And didn't do a skin scraping either.
sending lots of love, will keep you update, hope I have good news )(

true, I'll ask the vet if they have any other recommendation of food. Do you happen to know alternatives for allergic sphynx cats?

thank you so much for your help, you are all so nice

Hugs to you and Ele. Skin issues are tricky! I would check with vet about weight loss and UC as others have mentioned. If this vet isn't working out might suggest a veterinary dermatologist.

Aggie has horrible allergies, we feed RC ultamino (not sure if it is available in Spain) It is specially formulated for skin and allergies. I also give her allergy injections every 2 weeks. She was allergy tested and found to be allergic to almost everything. Her skin flare ups look differently than the pics of Ele.

Keep us posted!

I've attached posts of her journey below.

Allergy testing and injections

Finally switched to a prescription diet food

I don’t know any, no. But what most people recommend is to go with a novel protein (one never used before).

Hello!

I just wanted to give you an update on Ele
.
We brought him to the vet and he has been tested to see if this is coming from an allergy or not. If it's allergy origin then we will have to do multiple tests to find out what is exactly causing this.
But if it's not because of an allergy then the options don't look good, the vet said could be Toxoplasmosis, FelV FIV (leukemia) or FIP.

I have to wait a week for the laboratory to get the results about this but his skin is getting even worse and I don't know what else I can do.

thank you all for the support!

Oh no that’s not good news! Does your vet have a treatment plan ready if it’s one of the bad things?

You may want to try a pet cone colar while waiting on the results from the vet, also called the cone of shame. Hopefully it will prevent serious scratches and possible infection.

I’m sorry I don’t have any advice to give, but this looks shockingly similar to what I’m dealing with on my Violet’s face the past 3 weeks! We’ve been to the vet and they also think food allergies so we are in the process of switching over food.. I’m really curious to hear what your vet has to say when the next set of results come back. I hope it is nothing serious for your precious baby

@ele, did vet rule out Urticaria pigmentosa?
skin biopsy for yeast or bacteria? it almost reminds me of the extreme bacterial staph infections my dog would get on his head.

a soft collar cone may help if scratching it. did vet give any topical medications? a lair full of prayers and positive vibes for sweet Ele. will try to find some members in Spain for vet recommendations you asked about. @Ladywolf , @Cinafina

we are here for you
