Hello, I recently got my sphynx about a week ago and when I got him he had these small bumps and scabs and they haven’t gone away is it something I should worry about? Also I just noticed today this faint darker/ red spot on his shoulder area. I have used Earthbath hypoallergenic shampoo on him and hypoallergenic cat wipes on non bathing days

Oh boy. And here we go again. My Sunny developed something similar looking and my vet went a little bonkers over it. Maybe it's ringworm, maybe he has mange, maybe it's a bacterial overgrowth, maybe yeast overgrowth, maybe food allergies..... You get the picture. He had skin scrapings and it came back positive for ringworm (it never looked like ringworm to me). She gave me a bunch of medicated products -- wipes, mousse, shampoo, ear cleaner -- and told me to clean the heck out of him. And then he got horrifically worse, requiring an emergency run to a different vet (my vet was unavailable) for a benedryl injection.

More skin scrapings (my poor cat!). Which came back negative for ringworm, twice.

Now we've concluded that his original test was a false positive -- maybe he just happened to have ringworm spores on him, which could have happened because someone petted the cute naked kitty and transfered it to him. (He was dropped off at the vet by a friend of mine from the humane society, who has lots of fosters.) And I believe the original bunch of spots that I sent him to the vet for were because he is highly sensitive to either the wipes or shampoo products I was using on him, and/or something environmental like laundry detergent. I'm not using ANY products on him now -- he gets wiped down with warm-water wash cloths, which he loves -- and amazingly enough the spots all over him have almost disappeared. Even his ears look good!

The moral of this story is: a) find a vet who knows something about sphynxes; b) don't overreact; c) it's really tough to figure out what is causing the spots -- it can be SOO many things from foods to a brand of dryer sheets. If you can't identify it by trial and error, it may need a veterinary dermatologist/allergist to figure it out.

First photo: some of Sunny's original spots that caused me to take him to the vet. Second photo: his reaction to his medicated shampoo and/or wipes, that required an emergency vet run. Third photo: what he looks like right now -- pretty much spot free.
