Hey larians,

I have found these small purple flowers growing up over my balcony. Does anyone know what these are and whether they are safe for inquisitive Sphynx babies?

I've been trying to ID this shrub all morning and it's driving me crazy. If you find out what it is please let me know. I always work on the premise that if I don't know what it is, assume it's toxic and keep the kitties away.

@Catzzzmeow I think you may be right with barometer bush. The flower looks spot on. I was struggling to tell whether it was zygomatic or if the petals had just collapsed in the photo.

I'm pretty good at identifying native plants in the UK and am getting better at horticultural ones but I find those in other countries difficult. Especially when most id apps ask things like number of stamens, whether stigmas are fused or separate, leaf arrangement, etc which are tricky to see in a photograph.

@Catzzzmeow @Beckinboots Omg you guys got it! Thank you so much, I was also going crazy looking for it!

It is definitely Barometer Bush, scientific name Leucophyllum frutescens, which looks to be non toxic to cats!

I will still try to keep my baby away from it but can relax now knowing what it is - thanks again!
Yay! I can't actually take any of the credit, it was all @Catzzzmeow. But at least I can sleep tonight knowing what it is :0
