I was looking at my local craigslist to see if there was any news ads for sphynx.... this is what I found! most of it didnt really bother me till I saw the declawing and the remark behind it!

"I have been looking for quite a while for a sphynx cat or kitten to adopt. Although it is an awesome breed, I refuse to pay $1000.00 to a breeder for one. Adoption websites do not have any, the closest one I could find for adoption was a $600 adoption fee and was in Michigan. I have been a veterinary technician for four years and know about their genetic issues, as well as high maintenance care. If you know of anyone that is needing to rehome their baby, or breeds them and has a 'non sellable' baby, I would love to adopt! Age, sex, and color are not factors although I would definitely want to meet the kitty first. (Hoping to find one possibly already fixed, vaccinated, and declawed-which is typical for this breed due to them scratching their skin... just to insure they are and have been healthy, but if they are not it is fine). Thank you."

    Huh? Declawing is "typical"???
I don't know too much about Sphynx's yet, but I have never heard of someone recommending declawing their sphynx! Almost all of the breeders website's that I look at won't sell to a family who wants to declaw......they are just against it. And paying $1000 for a well bred, healthy sphynx from a reputable breeder, well I would say is a pretty good deal!

What a jack a$$! I cant believe some people. My furry cat Milton is declawed front and back. I got him this way from the humane society because I felt bad for him and know that he can not function without them and I knew that most people didnt know that. I have seen him struggle is so many ways.

I have never heard of a Sphynx being declawed. Did anyone email her? I am curious her response

They obviously have not researched acquiring a sphynx or they would know to not ask for one that is declawed! Idiots!

I don't think it's impossible to find a declawed one, but I've never ever heard anyone giving such a moronic reason to declaw and all it shows is she has NOT researched the breed!

My breeder made me sign a agreement "NOT to declaw!" Cannot believe this person is working in the Vet community. She is an idiot! I hope you guys do actually send her a message! What an outrage! Thinking that she might pass this mis-information on to customers at the client where she works! Ugg!

Let's just be glad she refuses to pay for a "Nudie"! Her chances of getting a baby are slim to none. She definitely needs to educate herself. Regardless of breed my vet is against declawing any cat. Also, be glad she doesn't work with any of out vets!!!

What an idiot! I've got 2 declawed cats, my old Ragdoll is declawed on the front, and Oogie was declawed front AND back before I got him :( I'm lucky with my two, they still choose to use their litterboxes, but they both do have a tendancy to nip and bit - Think about it, you take away their claws, OF COURSE THEY'RE GOING TO LEARN TO USE THEIR MOUTH! Needless to say, they where both declawed before I got them How else are they going to defend themselves? The ONLY time I'm kind of ok with declawing a cat is in situations where it's the ONLY way they can keep the cat, such as when there's someone elderly in the home that doesn't understand how to pick it up properly and the cat is injuring them, and it's either declaw the cat or get rid of it, but I still don't like the idea!

Anyone who thing's it's TYPICAL to declaw has very clearly not only not done their research on Sphynx, but on cats and declawing in general!
