Hi everyone!

I am new to the forums and am very glad to come upon this as it has helped my research for my new baby coming home Nov. 17th. As I am NOT a new pet owner, it will be my first sphynx kitten and there have been so much to read up upon for this breed. Still reading up on what are some things I should purchase before her homecoming day and plenty of questions for my fellow sphynx mom/dad. Overall, she will be coming from Florida. Pretty stoked to add her to our full house of pets. Here are a few questions I have that would be MUCH appreciated if some would kindly help me.

1. Breeder is currently feeding her Instict raw bites. GREAT brand BUT eventually I want to switch her to dry Solid Gold. I've read that you can't mix raw and kibble due to digestion rates. How would I properly transition her OR what are your thoughts on feeding her dry?

2. I bathe all my pets (excluding my scottishfold) with Earthbath Aloe&Oatmeal shampoo. Is that a good shampoo for a sphynx or should I consider a different brand?

3. What are some possible necessities needed for my baby's homecoming? I already have the basic cat set up (cat litter, litter box, water fountain, scratching post, toys)

4. Heating wise. I've looked into thermo pet bed for times when we have to leave the house and she needs a space to stay warm. Does anyone have any experience with that or would you have any suggestions?

Thank you EVERYONE who've took their time to respond to my post. I look forward to meeting you and posting further pictures of my Raisin's homecoming!

Welcome to Sphynxlair! It’s great you are researching and preparing for your baby. This section of the community has some great information in it that you might enjoy. Sphynx Cat Help Center

Please feel free to add the pics of your baby within the thread. Due to having the Breeder’s Cattery name on the pic, it had to be removed. Be sure to ask your breeder first if you can remove their name before sharing. Some do not permit you to do it.

We will be happy to help you wait for Gotcha Day to come!

@RaisinBambino welcome to sphynxlair. What an exciting time for you! It's great you're doing research.

For switching from raw to kibbles: it's indeed not possible to feed kibble and raw food together. Best is to keep the raw food for the first weeks and only change the food when your baby is adjusted to the new house and family

The shampoo: I don't know this brand but if it's works for your current pets you can try to see how it works with a sphynx. Rise the shampoo very well to avoid a brownish/orange skin the next day

Sounds like you already have all yhe necessities. Lots of sphynx love to be able to climb in a cattree, to play with Da Bird (a feather toy) or a laser light.

For heating beds: I don't have one for my crew. I have snuggle pouches were they can crawl into and lots of blankets everywhere. For my crew that' enough to stay warm

@Catzzzmeow Oops, I apologize for the posting. didn't know the rules & was just excited to show pictures of the new baby.

@admin Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to learning a lot from other sphynx parents and contributing to the sphynx community.

@Toa and Ross Thank you SOO much for responding to my concerns. Still learning a lot about what to do & I want to make sure I'm doing it right. I'm just worried for the lil baby not being fullfilled with her needs.

here's a picture of my little monster I will be getting on Nov. 28th !

@RaisinBambino Awhhhh can't wait for gotcha day pics and tales amd your journey with us!
Let the count down begin!

1. I have 4 Sphynx dry food addicts
Very happy with Nutrisource cat and kitten food in the blue bag - no recalls .solid poos, no skin issues. I found they are waaay less greasy as when I fed Acana .
You will find what works best for your wee one :)
Always recommend to feed jest breeder feeds amd if you decide to change foods transition very slowly . I am all so but feeding what works.

There are great threads about raw feeding if you decide.
Several members feed "Better in the Raw " food / u stew
@Xandria has great pics and info as well as @Condo commando amd several other members can chime in .

2. Shampoo - I switched my first Sphynx from Aveeno to Hylyt shampoo recommended by a member . Love love it ! Several members use Hylt shampoo - my vet sells it amd I get it online too. It is soap free hypoallergenic , easy rinse - using it for years .
Another product called "d'grease " is great too amd a weeee bit goes a long way - note need to really rinse it well or they get grimey again soon .

3. Home coming necessities - perhaps call ahead for an appointment to your vet for a wellness check amd poo sample - your contract may have a Clause to do so within a few days of gotcha day. Also have vet put in big letters NO Ketamine anesthesia on kitty's chart .
Also can discuss with vet microchippojf if you are deciding to do so - often its done during spay/neuter surgery .

kitty proof everything for life! They will eat strings yarn , toilet paper , even strings on cat toys like Dabird -kitty can potentially get caught up in toy stringd so I only use supervised and put away in a closet.

Exfoliating gloves are great for spa day , some like the supplement l-lysine powder .
Cat litter - recommend using east the breeder uses and transition slwly if you choose to.
Lol a metal litter scooper since poo patrol is a must several times a day .

Tell everyone to watch when walking and opening doors - they are lightening fast and always underfoot! I train mine like a dog to a spot for meet n greets .

Nail clippers , (I also use fragrance free no alcohol makeup remover wipes from Walmart to Clean nail gunk ./fragrance free baby wipes )

Ear cleaner- ask what breeder used too for spa day routine -
My vet got me hooked on trizultra with Keto to gently wipe clean ears I put on a round cotton cosmetic pad -
qTips - and qTip brand only precision qTips (off brands I found too sharp )
to gently clean skin folds and outer ear edge button flap thst holds gunk .

4. K&H makes nice thermo beds - I won't leave any electric blankets or beds on if I am not home.
Instead many of us use lots of throw blankets:)
I get the plush 50"x60" fleece blankets at Ross and Marshalls -
They actually like those better to burrow in than any other cat bed I bought .

dreft laundry soap is popular too for kitties with skin senstivities .
you can ask breeder what detergent she uses-
I never use fabric softener on kitty products including their blankets and baby face clothes and exfoliating gloves

Members will chime in with lots of great suggestions to choose from and see what works best for your baby !
when you find products that work , please please share !
We all learn and grow together here whether a member for a day or years
Everyone has something to share :)
