A friend of mine has a problem with her Sphynx. I was talking about it to another friend on line who said she used to come here along time ago. She said there were a couple of owners who had the same problem and I might ask if they are still here. She remembered one name Michele Been and her cat Bones.

The problem with my friend's Sphynx (he is a 6 mth old kitten) is that he has these sores on the back of his rear legs. She hasn't had luck getting rid of them. He has seen a vet who gave him antibiotics, but they didn't help the sores.

The lady I met on line said that although no one seemed to agree on what caused them, the people here did have luck getting them to heal. Michele's cat was a rescue who had been confined to a cage for a long time. In his case you could actually see his bones. This made me cry.

So does anyone know Michele or any of the other people who's cats had the same problem? Do you know anything about how to treat these sores?

Oh and I mentioned I was getting my first Sphynx. It didn't work out, but I know when I find the right one it will.

I'm not sure where to post this. I hope it's okay to put it in a few places.

Thank you for your help

I think this is the post your friend is referring to: http://sphynxlair.com/community/threads/bad-to-the-bone.7610/#post-106350

Do you have a photo of the sores? That might help.

If it is red broken skin, it could be friction burns or burns from sitting on places like the radiator or stove top. Hard to tell without seeing it.

I would think a good pet-safe antiseptic cream or spray might help? We use Vetericyn hydragel spray on grazes and it definitely helps.

By the way I would recommend just posting in one subforum - they will all get looked at equally. Most of us just browse new posts :)

@Spacecat - hopefully someone will chime in with Bones' moms info- thank your friend too for opening her heart and home to this baby-
I have an adoptee cat that came to me with two tubes of meds to put on her skin for irritations, rashes on her face and front legs ( I changed her food to lifes abundance dry not in stores- autoship mine online direct)

They are topical creams from vet : Entederm - for daily use
Terramycin - if the irritation is being more stubborn as needed

Best to check with vet to see if these would be of help to your friends kitty's needs

I use Vetericyn spray or vetericyn VF hydrogel I really like - bought online-

^**Can you post a pic of the rear leg rash?

*** Is it from sitting on something warm? Cable box, heater, ** allergic to type of litter? Would be my first process of elimination.

I can't offer more than to say to please recheck with her vet -

Keep us posted please

Best wishes too on your kitty search

First my friend doesn't have access to the net. We talk on the phone a lot. She has been so excited about her cat and then this rash developed. One person mentioned that in Bone's case it could have been because he was in limited space in the small cage that he was in. I suggested allergies (contact dermatitis) and she has already repeatedly changed things he's in contact with.

I will pass on all your suggestions and if we manage to clear it up I will let you know. Next time I talk to her I'll ask her if she can mail me a picture.

I read the one link and that sounds like the woman who was described to me. I will try and reach her.

On another note, if the cat did not have any issues with soars when the woman got her, I would say, what has she changed herself if anything after receiving the cat, food, water/ food bowls, litter, etc. and back track from there. :)

Red skin could be friction burns from sitting on hard floors that's what my vet said about mine and my cornie had bald patches on his back legs.

Hello everyone, I am be here I found the forum while trying to find some info about a rash on the rear legs of my Miya-Sotz. My local vet doesn’t seem to have much experience with Sphinxes.
When I mentioned that she needed regular baths she said she never heard anything of he sort, and recommends “Vet Soothe” wipes to use on her skin. I use them once and noticed her skin very dry, so I didn’t use them any more since about a month an a half.

I just been on holidays and Miya was looked after by a friend but she appeared to have produced too much oil while I was away, on my return I used one of those wipes to take some of the oil off, and she was anyway having a bath the next day, I didn’t noticed anything at the time but when I bathed her the next day I noticed a rash on her back legs, not sure if they were there before or were caused by the wipes.

Anyway the first photos are from Tuesday, I sent the to the vet and they said he rash should go away on its own. I went to work for a few days and just returned home today, (she stays with my other half) and I think the rash is growing, she seems to have some on her tummy too (last 3 photos are from today), any ideas? Should I use vetericyn?
